Still not really sure how much value Sonos represents anymore.

After some showroom testing, my parents went with an LG soundbar (SN11RG) with a sub and two satellite speakers (with upwards-firing drivers). The cost of the LG setup nearly half of the cost of the equivalent Sonos setup, and in my own opinion, the sound and material quality wasn't really any different.
Not the same use-case. Individually networked multi-zone speaker is different from an HTIB.
If you play from the TV to the speakers, then the Sonos can do that and more.

If you ONLY play from the TV to the speakers, then its correct you dont need the extra capabilities of the Sonos.

Some company really needs to make the "tech" piece of speakers modular and upgradeable.

Speakers are something that many like to invest in and keep for a long long time.

Going the passive + receiver route is sort of clunky -- it'd be nice to see something in the middle

The wife can do the Sonos devices across the house from her Spotify, and I don't get called all day long how to use some device. Its worth the cost...

Don't get me started with the Logitech remote.

Sonos as a company has also made some pretty nasty decisions. They pretty much bricked an "unsupported" speaker line, and they also had a "recycle mode" that would permanently disable the speaker.
They've done this a number of times now (according to Wikipedia, must be true!)

I still have a ZonePlayer that works fine and sounds great. I used to love the Sonos ecosystem and innovation.

Sadly, these sort of unthinking corporate actions have really sullied my opinion of Sonos. I wouldn't consider buying a Sonos product again.

I wish they'd fix the Beam's muddy, unintelligible dialog or release a center channel speaker instead of a sub.
This is one area I wish they'd spend some time on. Even the Arc can have low dialog at times, especially when compared to special effects. Having explicit control over center channel level would be an easy first step but Sonos seems to averse to doing exactly that.

From what I've seen in reviews the only thing that helps with this is a sub or going bigger with the rear speakers.
The system will then calibrate to prioritise mids and highs from the bar while the lows are handled by the rest.

Apple could buy Sonos today, Implement Siri in, revamp the Sonos app and build it into Apple Music, and oala" Entirely new market share and space for them... but they keep playing around with the beats team and their uninspiring homepod tech...

Apple Music as a standalone app is a mess. Apple Music as a service promotes (to me) auto-tuned Rap “artists” years after its launch even though I’m not interested in that crap. Sonos doesn’t need a bobo assistant like Siri. Sonos has done a good job strategically handling their supply chain during the pandemic. Apple is mastercraft in that arena.

Plain and simple, Sonos doesn’t need Apple and Sonos isn’t for sale. The Sonos ethos and Apple ethos are different.

To be fair, they did relent on their unthinking corporate blunder, and it cost them dearly in reputation. I‘m happy all my Sonos still works as new, 10 years on, (every Sonos speaker going back 17 years still works) but that close-call makes me think twice about any ‘smart’ device purchase. As does my experience with smart TVs (garbage), and several ‘app-connected’ gadgets I got as gifts and were bricked before I ever even used them.

No thank you. I like my Apple products, but every one of those steps would make Sonos worse, and then they’d double the price. HomePod didn’t bomb because it was a bad tech. It bombed because of Apple. It was an overpriced vanguard for Apple services that nobody loves. Apple can’t seem to make a product these days that exclusively serves the user.

Well no, I'm not wrong because Sonos did exactly as I described to the CR100. Owners installed the update and it was bricked with no warning.
Readers should not be misled into thinking the CR100 was a Sonos speaker. It was a remote control, which was retired after 13 years in favour of the free app.

Sonos is set to release a smaller, more affordable subwoofer that will be able to wirelessly pair with the Sonos Ray and the rest of its existing soundbar lineup, a new report has confirmed.

VRG_ILLO_5226_Sonos_Leak_sub-mini.jpg

According to The Verge, Sonos is working on a smaller version of its $749 Sub, called the Sub Mini, which will be capable of pairing with the company's second-generation Beam, the Arc, and the Ray, which was unveiled earlier this month.

In an earlier leak, Sonos described the Sub Mini as a "smaller, cylindrical subwoofer," and that is pretty much reflected in a rendered version of the actual product seen by The Verge.
The full features list, dimensions, price, and release date have not been disclosed, but the subwoofer is likely to follow the same design signature as other recent and upcoming products in its home theater lineup.

Apart from the Ray soundbar, Sonos also announced this month that it will be launching its own voice control system for its speakers, allowing users to say "Hey Sonos" to control compatible music services, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora, and Sonos Radio.

I think Sonos will have a big hit on their hands with this mini sub. The high priced Sub has been keeping many people away from their ecosystem. The new Ray, a mini sub, and the slew of smaller products certainly coming in the future with their recent acquisition of the Dutch company Mayht, seems to set them up for a wider net of potential customers.

I bought a sonos beam gen 2 with two Sonos SL speakers during Black Friday a couple of years ago for $550 all together from Best Buy. Every time I have guest over they always complement the sound. All tech is heading in the direction of equipment becoming obsolete. Apple does it all the time without much though from others.
The beam 2 just came out last year?

I’m guessing you have the original Beam (gen 2 didn’t come out till late last year)

Since I don't have the current sub to compliment my ARC, Sono's may get me w/ this mini hmmm .........

Usually where do Sonos launch their new products first; UK or the States?
Is there a tentative month we can assume they will launch the mini?

Don't know why you are getting the hate on this... Since their forced obsolete and recycle mode debacle, which to their credit they did roll back, but only after the rather unpleasant blow back from the community. I have long since given up on their products. I have sold off half of my Sonos speakers and once I find an alternative, I will sell off the remaining. I once had, close to ten speakers from them, I am down to five now. Never used them in conjunction with my TV, as I have a wired setup for that, but these were for the whole house audio.

It is still very irritating, that I am consistently asked if I want to update to the S2 controller on my various devices, even though they know what I have. Irritates the crap out of me.

So aside from negativity towards Sonos does anyone have some legit insight re. this questuon?
