Am I ever glad I sold my A7rII over the weekend before price tumbled more. It caught me by surprise as expecting a7sIII and a9II before they did the a7rIV. Now back to a single no back-up camera with the A7rIII, but will wait on the IV. One thing that does intrigue me is the 24MP crop mode, but no idea how the computer will handle the 60MP files. I may need a new computer! Since I sold my 24-70, I have been using 24, 55, and 85 primes. That make the 24MP, which is quite acceptable, interesting simply switching mode rather than lens. 24 would cover 36, 55 covering 82, and while the 85 is great, adding a 135 covering 202 would be a killer prime combination and quite portable as I already have a small case to carry 2 lens with camera mounted lens separate (no case).

Looks like the use of this body is growing. A7rIII was so good at still-life and landscapes. But with the animal eye it should also start to be an interesting body for wildlife. Granted hardcore sports and wildlife shooters may want a9. Can't image what the next a9 will be able to do.

I guess if you can drop $3500 on a new body, I suppose a new PC won’t be that much of a financial burden, though the new Mac Pro isn’t exactly cheap!

It as not that long ago that a 30MP was amazing. A few years later and we are at 60MP+. How many years before 100MP+ in a FF body.......2 years?

One thing for sure. With those hit MP counts, the AF system needs to be spot on and with some very sharp glass.

That many MP is too much for me, but even the high-end m43 cameras are able to produce an 80MP image under a special setting.

Yep, my two E-M1II bodies indeed can do the shift and product relatively large raw files.

Seems hard to imagine needing any more than this camera for any photographic situation but I’d rather spend my money on that new little Sigma.

Looking into this more the video is confirmed to not change that much so no 60fps 4K and it's 8bit. This is definitely more of a photocentric update so the big question if they are coming out with a A7SIII for video mode with 10 bit and 60FPS 4K.

I'll be curious to see how the new sensor stacks up in real life. I'm not too interested in the pixel shift mode as that does not work out well in real life.

Pixel shift can work great, but it's useful only in a narrow range of shooting.

But that being said, I think it's a lot more useful on a M43 than a 61MP FF.

As others have noted, I wonder when there are too many pixels to feed and care for. Maybe they want to sell 8k monitors....

Greater MP count means more pressure on AF system, sharpness of lenses, IS, and abilities of photographers.

Most likely the A9ii will be out in time for the Tokyo Olympics, as well as the A7siii.

What I'm thinking is that with the arrival of the new model the A7RIII will drop in price as dealers will want to get them off the shelves.....

Drop in price? They were less than $100 on Amazon Prime Monday!

Someone on Nikon Cafe scored one of those great deals -- he got an expensive lens for $94.00. I forget which lens now, but it was one which is normally over $2000..... He was afraid that this was too good to be true and that either the thing wouldn't be shipped at all or that it would be grey market or something. The lens arrived at his home, pristine and with Nikon USA warranty, so he is thrilled. Yeah, if I'd known what was going on I would've tried to have tried to snag a Sony body or lens..... Dang it!

How long have you been waiting? This is on my list too, but I'm not really convinced I'll see a price drop-- at least not for a couple years when they eventually release an A7 IV. I would love to be wrong, though ;)

Just need to sell my barely used Canon 6D (mk I) to help offset the price. Actually sold all but one of my Canon lenses years ago.

Yeah I think the Sony A7 III was among those with that pricing error... pity I didn't have it in my "Saved for Later" part of my cart, there's a chance I might have seen that.

I did look at the price on these on a whim... seemed they were going for $2500 ($500 off list)-- but I have no idea if that's a typical price for these or if it is a result of the A7R IV being imminent.

Yes, I saw that price on the website of a local photo shop here and that is the lowest price I have seen for the A7RIII -- that price drop is recent, and I'm thinking that indeed it is related to the new release and that the shop wants to begin unloading inventory even as they are taking preorders for the A7R IV. I would be very happy with an A7R III.....and Sony's 90mm f/2.8 macro to go along with it!

What advantages does the A7R III have over the A7 III? Other than higher megapixel count? I'll admit the $500 price makes it more interesting but I kinda lean towards the A7 III for low light performance (which is usually an area where you sacrifice a little to get higher megapixel counts).

The A7S III is overdue IMO, but I'm not convinced it'll show up at a palatable price for me (I guess I expect it to clock in closer to $3k to sit between the A7 III and the A7R IV.

Apparently the VF is somewhat better and, yes, there is that higher megapixel count.... I would be happy with that but don't really need over 60 MP! Somewhere around here I have a chart that shows the differences and in the end I decided that for the kind of shooting I like to do the A7R III would do very nicely. Yes, the A7 III is also very appealing and I sure wouldn't object if one fell into my lap, either! :)

The A7III has the better focusing system and battery than the A7RIII.

I have to wonder if Amazon will try to say it was an error and attempt to recover the cost.

Can Amazon void the sale or will they let it go.
