That's definitely a funky design, and it seems like the voice isolation on calls is crazy good. Not for me but I know a lot of people who are going to love these.

In all honesty I would say the Sony's are definitely comparable to Airpods. Are they as good as AirPods Pros, probably not. I'd say the Sony's score a 7.5 out of 10 (maybe an 8) vs the AirPods Pros. I only owned the AirPod 1's before I upgraded to AirPod Pros so can't really compare to standard AirPod 2's.

Would you say these Sony's sounds same as AP1? Better?

AP1 & 2 basically are the same on sound

APP and AP3 are a different animal altogethe

I was considering buying a pair of Bose Sports Open. Anyone know how these compare?
I have never tried the Bose Sports Open but having looked at the product details, the Bose fire audio into your ear canal from higher up, so if I was to put money on it, the Sony's (having experienced them) would be way better. I have tried the Bose Frames which are similar to the Bose Sports Open and there was no contest between those and the Sony's.

Bose stands for Buy Other Sound Equipment.

Nonsense..

Bose makes some good general consumer stuff.

I very much enjoy their house sound/tuning.
It's very non fatiguing and easy to listen to.

I still use Companion 3 S2's at my computer and they sound incredible

Thanks Chrjy. I do a lot of cycling and these Sony ones look very interesting. I'm not as anti-Bose as Bandaman seems to be - I just want the ones that sound the best and won't fall out of my ears as the pricing is similar.

You just made me reconsider the Sony’s with the Bose Sports Open. I like the idea that it doesn’t have anything inserted in your ear canal, but I just question the clarity of the music with the ‘openness’. And the price difference is that I’ve only $20 between both the Sony and Bose is negligible.

I definitely want to see more reviews on this, but my interest has always been about not inserting buds into my ear, so this might be just that one pair of earbuds I’m looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion.

In terms of cycling and being able to hear what's around you, they would be ideal. I tried cycling with the AirPods and AirPods Pro with transparency mode on but I always felt uncomfortable. The Sony's and the external environmental sounds were great. I'd say if I lost any hearing due to wearing them it would be around 5% but hardly noticeable.

Their slogan is better sound through research, but what they meant to say is better sound through marketing. You keep eating that up!

If the Bose are anything like the Bose Frames they are based on (firing audio into the ear from higher up) then the Sony's are the same at letting in external environmental sounds but still providing much better audio.

By the way, if you're into cycling and slightly off topic, you may enjoy the app my business partners and I have developed: Zuvolo along with your new Sony LinkBuds! ;)

2.) Interesting design that it’s not just an earbud that is inserted into the ear canal like typical earbuds, but it actually uses the outermost portion of the ear to hold a more secure fit. That was my problem with the AirPod Pros, is that they were making the inside of my ear feel a little bit more uncomfortable, because of how deeply inserted they were, so I’m wondering how these would fare in comparison with the design.

Same. I'm very intrigued by the design, not gonna lie.

I've been looking for ear buds for my use case (sport), as for normal listening I'm using proper over-ear headphones. I've been hoping Apple would come out with something tailored for sport (i.e. a tad more secure than AirPods (Pro)), so I've closely been following recent rumors in that regard. If someone is deeply inversed in the Apple ecosystem, nothing beats the connecitvity of W1.

Due to the lack of alternatives, I actually went with Samsung Galaxy Buds a couple or so years ago. Since then, other companies have come out with similar ear buds, including Apple with their Beats brand. But most of them miss that little flap to secure the bud in the pinna, and they all tend to be rather big (such as the Bose Sport) or look just horrendous. I have small ears and even the original Galaxy Buds - which are small compared to most of the other options - cause a lot of ear fatigue/pain even after a short time wearing them. Also, because it's Samsung, I literally get no functionality other than the basics.

I don't need all the bells and whistles many of the buds come these day (Alexa and HelloGoogle compatibility? Huh?). I want small buds that are secure enough for movement while remaining comfortable, with touch control.

C'mon Apple.

I actually might give these a try.

It’s coming up on 6 years since they dropped it….

From some devices, sure, but it's still on the newest entry level iPads and of course on a variety of Macs also.

A headphone jack is by no means "obsolete" out in the world either.
