Walkman and PlayStation are not the names of products. They are names of product lines. They still have alphanumeric model names within those lines.I sometimes wince at the apple product marketing names - are the AirPods Pro really pro ? - but Sony beats them hands down for appalling product names.
Get the people back who came up with the Walkman and PlayStation names please!
I understood that. That's also what I'm talking about, which is why I was surprised yours haven't been cutting down on engine and plane noise well. Mine do a great job -- it's basically non-existent for me.I'm talking about the Pro 2's in the second thought fyi, and yeah I've tried every eartip I could with triple flange, foam etc, they do cut the plane down by maybe 40%, but that's still quite loud. And in a weird way taking out the low tones the most makes some creaks and rattles more notable.
It's not quite the whisk you away to quiet planet I could have expected from some reviews.
Just like with the WH-1000XM5Tons more plastic, which the world definitely doesn’t need…🤮
Yes, I had the same problem with battery drain when not in use, then I read on a forum that a good way to blunt this is to turn off 'find my', which I did, now my battery drain when not in use, especially in the case, is next to nothing. Do I miss 'find my'? Not really, it stays mainly in my house and they are big and bulky enough I never lose them.Come on Apple! Get it together! Oh and can you please introduce a proper sleep mode for my AirPods Max? They drain battery like crazy when not in use... and I'm not putting them in that silly case to activate sleeping with a magnet. How about a proper OFF switch? One little button? Or press and hold on the wheel?
Tons more plastic, which the world definitely doesn’t need…🤮
Why?As an owner of the WH-1000XM5, I can't wait for them to broke down so I can justify buying the AirPods Max.
can't wait for cook to leave. It’s beyond embarrassing. We need a second coming je Steve Jobs.
I don't know why everyone keeps complaining about needing a case. I've had the Max since 2021 and carried it everywhere in a backpack and the earcups are still pristine. The metal construction stands up just fine without a case, unlike plastic shells that could crack or get deformed (which happened with my XM3 headband even with the hard-shell case).Glad they brought back the foldable design! 👍
Currently on the WH-1000XM4 — and they're still going strong.
But these look so tempting.
Edit:
Oh and Apple, contrast and compare… This is a case.

How so? I had the XM3s and had endless issues with the touchpad not registering correctly and creaking headbands, along with squeaking sounds from the earcups because I wear classes. Other than the battery life being worse I feel like the metal construction, physical controls, fabric earcups, and true to life transparency mode are vastly superior to what Sony was doing with their lineup.I have the XM4s and my wife has the XM5s. Regardless. Both of them are absolutely light years ahead of whatever Apple is currently making.
Awwwww, somebody at MacRumors needs a hug.......im sorry.... what?
its a bad thing theyve upped the number in their product code?
don't tell apple that about their phones :smh:
I did giggle. And then wrote a rude message. Sorry.Just trying to give you a giggle - I'll get my coat! I am, sadly, that old to remember dot matrix printers :-/
I'm still holding onto a pair of XM2's, and they're still great. Looking forward to trying out the new model![]()
Hé thanks! Good tip.Yes, I had the same problem with battery drain when not in use, then I read on a forum that a good way to blunt this is to turn off 'find my', which I did, now my battery drain when not in use, especially in the case, is next to nothing. Hey author, re-read your last line above the article link.
Sony has announced its new WH-1000XM6 wireless noise-canceling headphones. The good news is that the company has brought back the foldable design that was absent from its predecessor, the WH-1000XM5. The bad news is that it's stuck with the same naming convention, which sounds less like headphones and more like a dot-matrix printer from the 70s.

The WH-1000XM6 headphones now happily fold up into a redesigned carrying case with a magnetic closure instead of a zipper, making it more compact and travel-friendly than the XM5's. Otherwise, the overall aesthetics remain largely unchanged, but Sony claims the new model delivers significantly improved noise cancellation, a better Ambient Sound (transparency) mode, and enhanced audio quality.
Powering the enhanced noise cancellation is Sony's new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which works in conjunction with an expanded array of 12 microphones – 1.5 times more than the previous model. The company says this processor is seven times faster than its predecessor, allowing for more precise real-time noise adaptation.
Sony has also introduced several new software features, including Scene-based Listening, which automatically adjusts settings based on your activity and environment. The headphones also support LE Audio with Auracast for broadcast listening capabilities.
Battery life remains unchanged from the WH-1000XM5 at 30 hours, although Sony notes that a quick three-minute charge provides up to three hours of listening time. You can also charge this model and listen to your music at the same time.
Sony says it has collaborated with recording engineers from prestigious studios including Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering to fine-tune the improved sound profile.
It sounds promising. The only real downer seems to be the fact that Sony has priced these cans at $449.99 – $50 more than the previous model. Whether the improvements justify the price jump is the main question. These are unashamedly plastic headphones, after all. MacRumors should have a hands-on review of Sony's latest flagship headphones soon.
The WH-1000XM5's come in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue, and are available to buy from the Sony website and all the major electronics retailers.

Hopefully Apple learned that we do like a proper case and dislike being forced to go third party for one.Glad they brought back the foldable design! 👍

They are an absolute bargain! Two years ago, when I decided to get a pair of over ear headphones (was always an AirPods user), I went for them as they are so cheap.Good. I still think the WH-720n is a better value.
I hope I got the name right.
Sure, because naming it something likeIt’s called the iPhone 16, not
IP-1000XM16
Exactly, I have those Sonys and an AirPod Pro 2. I use the AirPods like 80% of the time.I have these, they definitely feel (and look) cheap, performance is good though. I was considering the more expensive Sonys, but not if they are “unashamedly plastic”, and for my usage/budget cheaper over ear headphones and AirPods is a better combination than one set of expensive headphones.
I use an AirPods Pro 2 when I need a portable headset. The Sony’s are good for acoustic music when I’m working.Much better value. But don’t fold, don’t come with a case, and the ear cups are shallow so presses on your ear. I still pick these up over my XM4 and my AirPods Max when I travel, as they are just a great beater with excellent battery life and everything you need.
