Sony Ericsson T608 & Sprint

lol, i wanted it too..then i realized to get reception on my current sprint phone i had to stand on my head with my thumbs in my ass.
so i got rid of it and went with ATT and got the phone i wanted and, at least for where i live and travel, get equal or better service.
when i last talked to the sprint store they said they were having issues with sony AND nokia....who just started making a few phones for sprint again, though they are crappy compared to those other carriers have.

The SE sight no longer lists the 608 just the GSM version the 610, they took it off like a month ago, i dont think its comming...also i remember reading an article in which SE said no more CDMA phones there only gona make GSM phoness...after all most of the WORLD uses GSM....us arericans think we are special and are to good for GSM....
Now.... why exactly would you even be happy about equal service? Unless you've grown acustomed to thumbs up your ass...
I've decided to go with verizon service but havent decided on a phone yet.. i think i'm just going to trial and error the phones for two weeks until i find one i like.

The Sony Ericsson t606 is coming out for Verizon pretty soon (I expect it will be released alongside the t608). It's equivalent to the t608, minus the bluetooth. Keep an eye out, it was supposed to come out in July! Do a google search for the t606, and you will find plenty on it. I suspect it's coming, but there was probably some sort of delay in manufacturing (?)
thanks, but the bluetooth is a huge motivating factor for me.. so, the phone isnt worth waiting for if it doesnt have the BT. Also, verizon is going to implement a Nextel style "walkee-talkee" feature within the year, so I'll prolly upgrade once that becomes available to a phone with both features.
Currently, verizon doesnt offer any phone with bluetooth (that im aware of) but then do offer better nationwide service.

The fact that Verizon was getting the t606 (without the bluetooth) phone was pretty upsetting to me .. Here they have a bluetooth phone available to them and they don't pick it up. I asked them about it, and they said that they have to "test" it with their network before they will release bluetooth. That seems like a weird excuse to me.I'm shopping around for Verizon phones also, and I'm considering waiting for bluetooth and the walkie-talkie feature. Anyway, good luck to those waiting for the CDMA Sony Ericsson phones ... they seem to be taking forever to release a phone they expected to release in Q2.

One could make the case that part of the reason why Verizon's service is better is because they test the phones more rigorously/have higher standards than some others. From whay I hear, SE's past phones didn't have a very good reputation in terms of reception.
Also, Sprint paid SE to have the t608 as an exclusive, so unless Verizon wanted to raise the stakes, the t608 wasn't really available (they were scheduled to get it about 6 months after sprint, when the exclusive expired).
Of course, with SE halting development of CDMA nobody knows if any of these will see the light of day. (what a bonehead move to announce that just before shipping revolutionary cdma phones - why not wait until you have unloaded the ones you already produced).
Yesterday a T608 Sprint movie was posted on Cnet. It looks dated since the Sprint guy was saying there would be a release in July. It just seems odd that the video appeared now.

Unfortunately, there is nothing about it on the sprint site... Crappy customer service, if you ask me, but I'm stuck with them, because my parents pay the phone bill, and they are going to have the best service on campus after they build a new tower into our stadium's scoreboard...

It's available by phone order only. I ordered one when they first came out the end of December and subsequently dropped Sprint and went with T-Mobile and the SE T610. I sold mine on Ebay and there are still plenty for sale on Ebay as well.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the phone number, but if you Google it, you will probably come up with something. There were only 10,000 produced so supplies are limited.
There are also some Sprint specific websites that carry info on this...the only one that I can remember is sprintusers.com (or something like that...again, a Google search should work). Sorry that I'm not more specific, but out of sight, out of mind!

I happened to stuble upon it when searching for Sprint phones to replace my dead i300. I don't know why it's being kept such a secret. I went to a Sprint store to help activate it and they were in shock to see it.
I purchased one a week ago and it's been working flawlessly for me. iSync and Bluetooth work like a charm as well as using it as a modem. I'm excited to try the headset soon.

I hear the battery life on the T608 really bites. How is your battery handling the bluetooth and voice calls?
I'd like to get one of these myself, but its not justifiable yet. Looks like I'll stick with my Sanyo 8100.

Yeah, my battery hasn't been that hot, but not as bad as some people have had it. I just ordered a free battery from Sony-Ericsson to replace it and they let me keep the old one. Seems to be a known issue that the batteries shipped with the phones are duds. I called their service number, told them my phone and issue and they asked for my address and said it would be shipped in a few days. That was it. The customer service was nice. Many people have done this without a problem, hence it being a known issue with SE and/or Sprint.
As far as the using the phone as a modem, I just went through the course of setting it up and doing a quick trip around the web as a test, so I can't really give you much more than that. I do have a Vision plan though and no other additional data plans. From what I've read, people seem to still get unlimited usage through Vision, even though Sprint had a press release from last year saying you'd be limited to around 3MB, even if you already had unlimited Vison? I guess I'll see on my next bill.

There are a few quarks, but maybe that's why this phone hasn't been released for public consumption yet. I would suggest reading through those links above before making a decision if it's right for you, but I can say I'm very happy with it. I've even dorked it out with an OSX theme.

Damn i've been looking high and low for a sprint bluetooth phone! I'm ordering this phone tomorrow! Do all the features work on the phone, or do you need more than that PCS vision plan?
Sprint Sucks and CDMA is the worst
Man i really don't understand why people still bother with sprint , with their spotty reception, crappy customer service and Lack of variety when it comes to phones. It seems that Sony and Nokia are giving Sprint the cold shoulder by pushing al thier CDMA models back.
I really don't understand why people are so hyped about the T608, cuz frankly it's very old now, it was announced over a year and a half ago and is basically an old T308 with a 65K screen and Bluetooth. CDMA Tecnology just plain suck(expection to WCDMA used by NTT DoCoMo in Japan) , it's voice quality is inferior to GSM and thier phones suck. the Hottest Phone on the CDMA side is the Sanyo VX6000 for Verizon and that phone is almost a year old. Samsung and Sanyo are barely keeping Sprint afloat with their Boring Designs. I remember before I 1st got my Cell with Cingular nearly 2yrs ago. I went to a Sprint Store and even the sales man told me to stay away from sprint.
Verizon is Good but Way Overpriced for what u get and with the exception of the VX6000 The rest of their phone line might as well be mistaken for 1999-2000 models. i mean come on you are the Biggest Wireless Provider in the U.S. and only have 2 color phones in your entire line. I really want to know why Sprint and Verizon are ALLERGIC TO BLUETOOTH they seem so egar to ignore a technology that has changed they way we use phones. Look at GSM over 1 billion people own GSM phones compared to 300 million CDMA users. we have an incredibly diverse phone selection,Candy Bar, Clam Shell , Smart Phones, PDA Hybrids. plus hardware cycles are much faster , even the cool T610-T616 is getting the boot already infavor of the new T630 and Z600 flip.
Sprint's a Shady company that just want's your money , really they don't even care about your credit just give them that $125 Deposit and they won't even check ur credit. Try that crap with T-Mobile or Cingular and they'll say "we will need a $300-500 Security deposit" Constant Dropped calls ,they must be No.1 in that category. Phony Wireless TV service moving at 1-2 fps....LOL. Man i can't wait for EDGE(here by spring) and UMTS(maybe fall/winter 2005) to hit the U.S. . as GPRS was Deployed only 1 1/2 yr ago in the U.S. and now on the Verge of Nation wide EDGE networks. I don't care if THE CDMA guys get ED-VO , does not change the fact that their Voice service sucks, Faster Internet is not going to make people forget about Dropped calls as i'm sure most people would trade the speed for better overall service.
So to Put it in simple terms if you want the Coolest , most Technologically Advanced phones GSM is the Way to go.
P.S. For all you GSM Lovers out there Motorola's V600 will not arrive until March-April by then will have already been a year and a half since it's introduction. Then again we are talking about Motorola(Motorola and Delays in the same sentence ..say it ain't so). by summer will already be obselete by then the Sharp GX-30(Phone of the Year PERIOD) will be out , 1mega pix cam w/flash 4x digi zoom(finally), 262k color 320X240 Screen(take that samsung), 40 voice ringtone(cool),Quad band(real world phone), 8MB built in memory + SD/MMC slot(Hot Damn). check it out at Mobileburn.com

I just switched out of Sprint to T-mobile. Got the t610 bluetooth phone and it works well. I use my Palm Tungsten to hoook up to the net (my phine dials out and acts as the modem)
My 1.8 G5 is on the way and I will be buying USB bluetooth hookup for that as well.
My parents switched out of Sprint as well- and Sprint called them and said that they owed $200 for leaving early. When my mom explained that they are past the contract- Sprint made up a story that she switched her plan 2 months earlier- thus starting up a new plan- which she never did. So be careful of Sprint.
