Do You Own or Plan To Own A Sony HDR-HC7 HDV Camcorder?

Please help.....

I have a Mac OS X version 10.4.11
My knowledge of Macs is incredibly basic, having previously owned a PC.
I have bought a Sony HDR-HC7 Camcorder as I was informed it would work with the Mac.............
I have connected the two via Firewire and nothing seems to happen. I foolishly expected my Mac to talk to the camcorder.
I have iPhoto6, iMovieHD 6.0.3 and Aperture.
If anybody does know how to make the two connect, please would you be so kind as to give me a step by step 'idiots guide', it really would be appreciated.
I'm sure this request sounds bizare to some but, having spent over £1,100 on the camera, I'd love it to work.
Appreciate any help possible.

On your camera you need to make sure the settings are correct. It's explained in the manual and I'm to lazy to break it out and check it.

It should work great with iMovie.

Meh ... 1080i? I'll pass.

For what I've been doing lately (a lot of green screen work), it's 720p or nothing. 1080i is impossible to work with.
(

I was all set to get the HC7e(urope) for my uni project - but it will involve almost entirely filming against a green screen. What HD camera would be good for green screen work, and what definition and frame rate should I use?

Thanks

1. Using the FireWire cable that came with your DV camera typically, a 6-pin to 4-pin FireWire cable, plug the small end (4-pin) connector into your camera's FireWire port.

2. Plug the larger 6-pin end into a FireWire port on your Mac.
Turn on your camera and set it to VTR (playback) mode.

3. Open iMovie HD

4. iMovie opens in camera mode; if you don't see an Import button in the interface, slide the mode switch, the short slider with the camera and scissors icons, toward the camera side.

5. You can use the playback controls in the iMovie interface to view your camera footage in the iMovie monitor pane.

6. When you find something you want to capture, click Import or press the spacebar.

7. Click Import again to stop importing.

Blue screen problems

:confused:Does anyone have the magic answer to why, despite the fact that iMovie '08 recognizes my Sony HDR-HC7 camcorder (I'm even able to use commands in iMovie to operate the camcorder), I only have a blue screen when I try to import anything? Whilst playing back a tape I see the item being played back on the camcorder's screen, but only the blue screen in iMovie.

Is this HDV and not set to downconvert to DV? Is iMovie set to the same standard the camera is? Does it work with the camera and iMovie both set in DV mode?

What model computer is this? If it's a Power Mac or Mac Pro, and if you have a Firewire add-in card, remove it for troubleshooting.

Try removing all other firewire devices until it works.

I have a Sony HDR-HC7 and Adobe Premiere CS4.

Now I am wondering how do I get all my video off the Mini-DV tapes onto the PC?

Whenever I connect the USB cable to the computer and the other side to the camera and I open the play/edit place on the camera, it gives me 2 options, picbridge print of memory stick.. That is for pictures...

How do I get the video off the camera onto the PC? Do I have to download some kind of software or something?

Thanks

Have you tried connecting the camera to your computer with a Firewire cable? Premiere CS4 should recognize that as an input source once the camera is plugged in via Firewire and turned on.

Yep,

USB is for photos.

Gotta use Firewire for Video!
