Hi there. I have a Mac mini M2 Pro and a Sony INZONE M9 27" monitor I picked up this summer.
I'm currently using an Apple brand Thunderbolt 3 cable out of the Mac mini's TB4 port, into the USB-C port (DisplayPort Alt Mode) on the Sony monitor. But the max I can do is 3840x2160 (scaled to 2560x1440) @ 60Hz with HDR. If I set the Mac to the next highest refresh rate option 95Hz, then I get random dropouts on the monitor. If I turn off HDR, I can do 144Hz without dropouts.

I'm assuming I don't have enough bandwidth over the TB3 cable? If I buy the Apple Thunderbolt 4 cable, do you think that would allow the full 144Hz HDR? Might just have to try it I guess.

Thanks for your time.

I have the same exact problem, although I have a standard M2 in my mini. I should have a TB4 cable tonight so I will let you know if it worked.

I'm no expert, but I'd for sure try running the monitor off the HDMI port on the M2 Pro Mini. I think you'll get the results you want. And I don't see any reason TB4 cable is going to help running it via TB port. I also don't think the M2 Mini is going to get the results regardless of the cable.

I'd rather use DisplayPort Alt input on the Sony for my Mini, as I have my Xbox and PS5 going into the two HDMI ports. But I can try that as an experiment.

I wanted to chime back in and report that an Anker TB4 cable did not do the trick here. Also, I wanted to note that 1440p (scaled) + 144hz used to be possible with HDR, but stopped working with 14.1. I'm currently running the 14.2 beta and the problem has not been fixed.

I have a work laptop (standard M1) still using Ventura where it works as expected. Hoping Apple fixes this! It's hard going back to 60hz!

Thanks, that’s helpful to know! I’ll run at 60Hz HDR for now and hold off on buying a new cable. Cheers.
