Why not Apple TV you nitwits?? There was already an unofficial iOS app that worked fine!

This. I guess I don't play the type of games where this would be beneficial, but it seems that it's an immediate handicap unless everyone is playing the same way.
Absolutely. I switched to the training range, and it was amusing for a few minutes, but there's no way I could get a kill or solid heal on any of my mains in a real game. I could see something like Stardew Valley working pretty well for this, but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

BUT if all 12 people were playing a full OW match with Remote Play, I would love to see that lol.

It would be great if Apple to relax their MFI requirements here a bit and allow the DualShock to work with iOS. Would be to everyone's benefit.

With that said, Sony could also find a way to make MFI controllers work. I know it has fewer buttons but in worst case add the missing buttons to the screen.

My Nimbus Controller works perfectly with the PS app. I think MFI support is already there.

You can use a SteelSeries MFi controller for that...and I happen to have one because I love "serious" games like Oceanhorn et al on iPad too :)
Read my double clarification! LOL
Seems like you're catching me right before the mea culpas...

Overwatch + PS4 + Remote Play + on-screen controls... sounds like a recipe that equals the best rage you’ve ever seen, possibly death threats... definitely something to put on YouTube for others enjoyment.

So does R-Play work well? How does it compare to the official app (besides the controller support)

Yes and no. One major limiting factor on how well Remote Play works has nothing to do with what app you're using to access it, but rather that the Playstation 4's internal wifi hardware is complete garbage when compared to today's standards. Maybe later revisions of it have improved, but I have a launch model PS4, and it really struggles with maintaining steady wifi connections, especially on the upload speed, which is what Remote Play largely depends on.

That being said, the issues I used to have with it were also seemingly partly caused by my out of date network hardware. I used to have an Airport Extreme (the latest one they made before discontinuing completely) as my main wifi router and then an Airport Express as a range extender in my upstairs. Those were plenty fast back in the days when I lived in a smaller house with only a handful of devices on the network, but weren't cutting it anymore when we moved to a bigger house and had kids that had their own devices using data, as well as all the smart home gadgets I've set up over the last couple of years.

After replacing my network completely with a 3-node Linksys Velop mesh network, Remote Play works MUCH MUCH better. But as proof that the PS4's wifi hardware sucks, it still sometimes drops resolution and frame rate when it can't keep up, even when I'm playing over the local network. The Velop gives me 180 down and 12 up all over the house, and the PS4 still can't keep up.

Sony has officially shoot their own foot.
That was the one biggest selling feature of their phones.
I still occasionally use remote play with DualShock 4 on the Sony phone.

I totally forgot Sony made phones...

This is awesome!!! ive been using R-Play for a long time but its nice to have an official option from Sony. Can anyone comment on L3/R3 using a MFi controller? R-play lets you rebind, and has support for controllers that have the physical buttons and ive been thinking of picking one up and it would be nice if it worked with the official app too.

Ok so the time has come, what’s the best mfi controller to buy? I will use it mostly with an iPad Pro and my Apple TV for PS4. What do you recommend?

Well since Apple has added R3/L3 buttons to MFI in iOS 12.1 your best bet is to ask SteelSeries to update the nimbus with clickable analogue sticks and buy that ;)

Alternatively there is a controller for iOS drones/games called the Rotor Riot which has clickable analogue sticks, however I don’t think it works with Apple TV only iPhones.

Can’t wait until 12.1 jailbreak is out for A12 devices so I can use a controller by installing a tweak and Remote Play at the same time!

Interesting how Apple allows Sony to do this but wouldn't allow Valve to release an app to stream games from a PC.

Wouldn't using an actual PS4 controller be superior to trying to use the iPhone as a controller ?

Is this another case of someone doing something to prove a concept rather than designing it for an actual need ?
There's a PS4 Remote Play app for the Mac, and that works by having you plug in an actual PS4 controller. It's a little laggy, but it does work.

OMG...I just played RDR2 on my iPad using a MiFi controller, and it was pretty awesome. The only control I can’t get to work using just my Nimbus is deadeye. I don’t see anyway to simulate L3/R3.

DS4 works fine with remote play. Just need to connect it with a second account then press the controller and choose main account!
Works on my iphone and ipad

Can I use an MFi controller to play this? Because those virtual buttons are not okay with me. Would be amazing if the DS4 would just work natively, but I doubt we'll see that.

Just tested it with the HoriPad Ultimate - works pretty well, just gotta use the on-screen Options, Share, L/R3, and TouchPad
