So, typical Sony.

We now have a newly announced Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium model announced.

Same specs as the XZ2 (which only came out last week), but this one has a 4k display and a dual camera set up.

Best thing about it? There will be no UK release.
So the market that gets almost every single Sony phone and the market who buys a lot of Sony phones is cast to the side.

I mean, I am lost for words. This should have been the XZ2 all along. This is just going to piss all those off who bought the XZ2 only last week.

It makes me not want to buy their devices and support them, despite the fact I'd have loved to give this one a shot.

Sony seems to enjoy being THAT guy

I had no idea the UK were being denied this device. JUST as I though Sony were finally listening, they ALWAYS do this, they give a little here and take some there.

I used to be such a hardcore Sony Ericsson fan, but this sort of thing happened every single year, and Sony carried on with it.

Last great device by these guys was the P910. Urrgh...
Sony gonna Sony.
Could not have said it better.

I had and loved the XZ Premium last year, so was absolutely made up when I saw that 4k screen returning until I read on within the article and saw about the UK release.
Completely idiotic.

But yeah. Sony.

Hysterical element is that it may actually be released in the US, where Sony has next to zero presence, instead of the UK which is one of their best Western markets. Don't understand that logic at all.

The people in charge there literally all need to be sacked. Immediately.

Is it really that hard to release it in both places?

I would release it in the UK first to see what reception it got. Then, it sales were good, I'd move to the U.S.

In all fairness, Samsung pulls the same kind of thing. The largest storage option for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ in the U.S. is 64GB and no dual/hybrid SIM option.

I really wish Sony could get better traction in the U.S. I think they are one of the only electronics manufacturers that could compete head on with Samsung and Apple.

Sony is clearly content with being a mid-range brand by not releasing the XZ2 in the UK. There's plenty of 4k content on Netflix and YouTube now. It would have been fun to try the phone in person.

Well according to the article in that link they might think about it closer to th summer launch.

Most people here in the US don’t even seem to know that Sony makes phones.

I’m not at all familiar with their phones. Do they run a skinned version of Android?

I haven’t used one since owning the Xperia Z1 Compact so can’t comment on current versions but from what I remember, it’s a relatively light skin. It wasn’t terribly heavy but was also generally uninspiring.

Yes. There design are slick and remind me of Sony's golden years of 1980-2010 when their products, especially Walkman devices, had leading designs.
Those were incredible days. I was used in one of their promotions once. I got interviewed about one of their products. And that’s all I’ll say about that. :p I was a huge Sony fan back in the day. It broke my heart when I saw them get arrogant and lose their way. I’m kind of holding my breath seeing if Apple goes down that same path, but I see signs Apple might be a tiny bit more humble and smarter. We shall see.

I really doubt the whole no UK release thing. Sony didn't announce the release at all, they've just announced the phone. Usually Sony releases the phones in regions not by countries and so far EU has been a single region for them.
