A little puzzled about the market for these headphones. Wireless headsets with noise reduction are never going to be very high quality. They may sound fine and be nice to listen to, but paying this much money for a pair of Sony wireless noise reduction headphones seems a little over the top. And they definitely feel like it is Sony's response to the AirPods Max which is pointless. Good luck to them, but Sony headsets have always felt 'plasticky' and low quality even if they perform reasonably well for a wireless noise reduction headset.
The Sony XM6 phones have a 3.5mm jack but also have the option of bluetooth.
I almost always use the wired 3.5mm jack (bought them to use on planes). It's nice to have a wireless bluetooth as a feature, no? Calling them wired vs wireless is a bit of a misnomer when they offer both options.
FYI I love noise cancelling headphones, and there is very little difference between Bose and Sony. I haven't tried Apple's as for years Bose was the best, and finally bought a pair of Sony XM6 as I heard they were competitive.
The verdict? Current gen Sony is not noticeably better than current gen Bose. Anything current compared to a couple of generations ago is a massive improvement. I would expect, and have read, that Apple is just about as good as Sony/Bose in noise cancellation by now (Apple claims 1.5x noise cancellation improvement in the Airpod Max) but haven't tried yet as in the past they didn't truly compete.
Generation of headphones > manufacturer of headphones (where Bose, Sony, and probably Apple are concerned)
What do I wear more than anything? $200 Bose Ultra noise cancelling wireless earbuds. Extremely portable, can keep them in my pocket so they are always on me, hold a charge for several hours, can recharge 2-3 times in their case. At night can lay in bed with just one of them in, and lie comfortably on a pillow. Just great. Looks like they are $250 now (gotta love those import taxes!) Software is slightly wonky, maybe 5% of the time have to put them back in the case and remove to reset them before they will work, but the performance is great.
