Also, consider if the room is bright.
Part of use case is the environment where the product will be used.

If so, LED, if medium to low light, OLED. Also, OLED is self emissive so you can get image retention and burn in if you abuse it. Both have ups and downs. But if you don’t pause images forever, continually subject the set to one type of content or watch shows with Tickers constantly on screen you would be ok with OLED. Just keep brightness below half as the brighter the display, the harder it’s driven and can result in images lasting longer or becoming stuck. But those blacks and per pixel lighting. OMG
Generally speaking, what you wrote can be true. It's not automatic. The quality of the panel plays a significant role, as does the quality of the backlighting in an LED. There are various backlighting technologies to consider. The OS is also a factor along with a host of other things. It's why I resisted offering that type of advice. Imo, the only good advice to offer someone in @Bearygoodfries1 position, is the advice that I gave: do research.

the 900H is an odd offering.

They are touting it is one of the first HDMI 2.1 TVs, but have it listed as 4k@60hz instead of 4k@120hz.

It would be nice if there were more 3D options still available. We have a 2016 or 2017 3D TV which is great. Allthough we don't use it all that much when we want to, it is pretty cool.

Maybe when it is time to replace that TV they will have options.

If the disposable income is there: What's a better TV to get? An LED or OLED?

It’s different technology that’s offering a different viewing experience. To simplify it, OLED has tru-er blacks, higher color saturation and OLED pixels are individually lit, so there’s no back lighting like LCD panels would utilize. Altogether, in terms of a ‘larger viewing experience‘ OLED has some clear differentials over LCD.

That said, my suggestion would be, if you have a electronic store Near by, look at side-by-side comparisons with LCD versus OLED, Once you understand some of the technology, you will see the core differences.

From my perspective, I think OLED really offer some nice advantages, especially if you’re a ‘gamer‘/deep into media content as I am.

Sony makes a solid TV. Still loving my pre-X1 processor, 65 inch 4K. Sure, it doesn’t support Dolby Vision, but I haven’t noticed it. Fantastic TVs!

I bought an LG C9 at the end of last year and continue to be amazed by it. The QD LED Samsung that seemed to be touted as comparable was significantly more expensive. I have a Samsung panel in my office running their Taizen OS and I'm MUCH happier with LG's WebOS.

i kinda regret getting the 2018 900f on november.

Same boat. It was end of year sale so I pulled the trigger.
Kind of sad that a 2 year old 2018 couldn't get simple AirPlay2 on it.

I may try and find a used AppleTV 4K somewhere down the line.

Prices on 55" 1080 lcd TVs should be plummeting and be a nice upgrade for me.

Still no 40"4K TV. I must be in the minority market wanting a not so large TV in my room.

Someone needs to produce an OLED TV at 48"-50" in size.

Yes. I can’t stand it on my 900F. I disable as much as possible, make sure there is no internet connection to the tv, and I use my Xbox One X, or Apple TV instead.

Is it really laggy?

So... Is Airplay 2 a cool built-in feature for those that don't have an App TV or is there some other benefit that I am missing to thainvvg AP2 bundled with a display?

I just picked up a 65" Samsung QLED at a pretty good price (yes, I am aware that there are better displays but there). Combined with my 4k Apple TV, I'm not understanding what (or even if) my ecosystem would be missing from AP2 on-device support - hence my inquiry here.

Cheers.

It's for people who don't have an apple TV already and don't want to buy another device to plug in. Personally I am not a fan of built in apps and would rather have a dumbTV, but that's me.

Does the Airplay 2 support give you anything besides playing sound on the TV speakers?

I have the 2018 model, and it's a great screen, but the audio quality is atrocious. I knew that going in from reviews and I didn't care because my intention was to use external speakers anyway. I do like the TV, but I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to use this TV for its speakers via airplay. Just get a sonos one or homepod.

Also, the "smart" features are mediocre, not that any TV does a good job these days. I have an AppleTV which is great, and anyone who tries to use the "smart" features is just punishing themselves.

Since I am looking for a new TV set I googled a little and found out that all those "smart" TVs have a no-update policy that is worse than what you get in the Android smartphone market. You buy the current Samsung TV with the two year old Tizen 5.0 and they will never update it with the newer 5.5 or the latest 6.0 which is coming soon. Wow.
