You think Apple is original?

Just takes Dieter Rams' projects from Braun and rehashes them and calls it their own.

Dieter Rams isn't original either. Minimal design is based on utilitarian needs and mass consumerism. It's been done before Dieter around/after the Bauhaus era.

If you are going to quote some lines from a book you should know the matter at hand, it´s not enough to throw some conspiracy theories around.

Does Braun make computers? routers? mobile phones? tablets? software? oh wait, they only make hair trimmers and such (pretty neat I must say).

The day Apple launches an iTrim I will say you were right, but until then...

Yeah I guess...
tbh, the whole world is copying each others products :/

You don't know jack about the history of design.

It's a known fact. Even Dieter aknowledges it and actually is happy that Ives took the same "approach" to the Apple products, which is fairly funny to me.

Apple is by no means original. They just take what is out there and make it better to fit their own criteria.

I don't even think Steve understood what Picasso was talking about, anyway. He even misquoted him.

You really need to post way more than a single angle. Right now you're just flamebaiting and trolling. There's nothing more to it. Look at some of the older Vaios. They have a wider range of designs, some of which might not fit your agenda. The overall layout of keyboard, screen, and trackpad is similar to many that predated the current macbook pro design. Apple was accused of ripping off the Vaio when they migrated to this design. I didn't lend that any more credence than I would give to your mental diarrhea.

+1. But also...who cares??? I mean really. If its a problem for Apple they'll take care of it.

Personally this doesn't bother me one iota. If this helps Sony sell more Windows computers, all the power to em!!

If I was in the market for a Windows notebook I would surely give it strong consideration.

This should be made a sticky thread.

I didn´t say that. If anyone includes an aluminium mesh in a product, is it copied from Braun?

I can see the similarities in 2 out the 6 you posted, nothing more (call me simplistic if you wish). Anyway this is a matter of opinion rather than actual fact.

Once again, do you know anything about industrial design or just design in general?

You need to understand where things are coming from to know where they are going.

I can catch every reference that Apple uses in their products. Easily. Why? Because I know the history. You don't.

I would buy one, just because it would be funny.

There's something specific that annoys me about these kinds of threads. The people who start them do not consider that it may not be copying at all. They're familiar with the look relative to Apple. It wouldn't matter who launched first, and Sony is arguably referencing some of their older designs (2004-2006) here. Out of the Windows laptops, if I was looking today I'd probably check out Lenovo, but I don't see myself switching.

Do you have to be such a pompous a**?

Thank God I left my Taschen Book selling days behind, otherwise I would have ended up questioning the aesthetics and ergonomics of a pizza box.

Wow, you were a salesman/woman for Taschen books. STOP THE PRESSES!

A pizza box is fine just the way it is. It is ephemeral.

Did you just compare a pizza box to a Braun/Apple device?

I dont know why everyone has their briefs in a bunch.
Who cares?
Does it run an apple OS?

I used to have a vaio and I thought it was a nice machine but this is just a shame. Would it really kill Sony to create their own innovative design? I mean that is such an obvious blatant copy of the MBP it is really sad and beneath sony.

looks similar but there are only so many ways to produce a specific device.

For example, if Apple starts producing TV and it's a rectangle at ratio of 16:9, is Apple copying the design of Samsung? Sony? LG?

A laptop must have a keyboard, a screen and the trend is to make it thinner.

You do not design Apple products nor Sony's.

Let them be and just use your macbook.

Statements like that make you look extremely uneducated.

Why does it even matter? It's a computer. Pick which one you want and whichever computer serves your needs the best, and buy and use it. You can only make a product so many different ways. If I was a windows guy, I'd definitely check this out, as it looks sleek and nice IMO. This is just one of those examples where people find it hard to believe that Apple copied other people and ideas in the past.

my last vaio experience was here at work. 4 of the execs ended up with 17" models.

between the 4 of them, 2 of them spent more time away for repair than actually in use. the build quality on them was SHOCKING. i'm not sure if they have improved as of late, but needless to say we haven't ordered any more. reliability and after sales support was a joke!

Actually for us mac fans it's even worse. Because it makes Apple complacent. That could potentially mean slower innovation. So yeah.. for all of us.. do some damn innovation on laptop designs already, sheesh.

don't you find it depressing that everyone just copies apple these days? if they spent less time copying (while dodging patents) and more time innovating everything would be better for the consumer.

You know what, guys?

I created an account on this site for only one reason. I found this topic in Google by accident, but it got me so angry that I had to post.

Sony did not copy Apple, it's Apple who's been copying Sony for years. Sony used to make laptops looking like this in the times when Apple's laptops were still all white.

http://notebook.cz/clanky/Laptop-Reviews/2007/en-sony-vaio-n19vp

Look, here's a Macbook Pro, oh wait... that's a Sony laptop! Those copycats copied Apple, but wait... Macbooks were all white in 2007, it's Apple that copied the looks. But yeah, some of blind fanboys will never admit that.

I'm not an Apple hater, I really like them, you could say I'm an Apple fan (also a Sony fan), but you can't say that Sony is copying Apple, because they were first with Macbook like laptops.

You'll find that a lot of Apple fans are quick to spew bile at competing products and manufacturers and can't seem to think objectively. You learn to generally ignore it, but it's unfortunate that they don't help our image in the eyes of the tech community.

(Just want to throw in that Sony are the last company that needs to copy Apple. Their designs are usually very good)

I dont see anything wrong with copying in general. It allows consumers choice and creates competition, driving prices down.

The only real problem are clones of products with no functional differences, which would make companies not spend on R&D.

For example I see no problem if someone took all the iPhone 5 hardware and make it run a somewhat polished Android experience. I'd buy one without a second thought.

If that someone is not Apple, well they weren't going to get my money to begin with, so it's no loss to them.

too bad 99% of the world has never seen any of those supposably copied products..

that's the issue here.

everyone knows what a macbook looks like, but i couldn't name any of those products pictured beside the apple products, and i'm sure NOT MANY COULD.
