Hmmm, that seems weird, but if true, that would be a good thing. Partly because more audio software for Mac = awesome, but also because more competition should force Apple into making Logic even better... at least I hope so! :)

Been waiting 15 years for Sony to do this, Sound Forge is great on the PC, its one of the last great audio jewels windows users had. Dont understand why people are comparing Pro Tools or Logic to an audio editor though. Peak and Audacity are better comparisons.

Although very great news, please wake me up when Logic Pro X is released.

Been using Wave editor for a while now, then there was Sound track pro, but this should be an interesting addition. It's now been over a decade since I last used Soundforge though.

As an audio professional

meh. So many tools. This is just another tool. I'll stick with logic/Live/Reason. I've been working with these for almost 10 years and see no reason to change. Plus i've lost any faith in sony what-so-ever.

Hopefully it will come with ACID too. ACID + SOUNDFOGRE+KONTAKT= badass.

Can't imagine anyone switching from Pro Tools to this though.

believe it or not there are dozens of reasons not to use Pro Tools.
First of all, they are a late arriver to the whole midi thing. Programs like Logic, Cubase and Sonar have worked with MIDI since day one and have much more sophisticated tools in this regard. Also, if Pro Tools was so dandy, why did they recently open up the application so you don't have to use Avid hardware with it? Avid doesn't do that on any of it's media composer or news cutter products (quite the opposite!). PT is obviously fighting to retain market share, and price is not the only reason. It has always been a conservatively upgraded program, often following instead of leading in terms of features. OTOH it is more stable than most of it's competitors, and no studio ever lost a client for "only" having Pro Tools.
As far as the Sonic Foundry family of products, they have some unique workflows and tools. I also feel that Sound Forge is more geared towards an edit heavy workflow.

Anyone else going to comment on the [poor] quality of the video? This looks like something made in after effects in 1999...

Sound Forge is a good stereo editor, e.g., mastering, but of course had to consider other apps, so I went with Amadeus, although I've had Peak and Wavelab. There aren't too many apps that specialize in mastering, so if in fact SF does port to Mac, I'll at least try the demo.

Amadeus is great because it's cheap, easy to use, and most clients really like the audio fixes I do in Amadeus as compared to Isotope, Pro Tools, etc.

These are two totally different things.

OMG, this is it. One of the reasons I keep going back to a Windows machine now, besides localization tools like Trados.

If I didn't use and adore Logic, I'd be using Pro Tools much more, probably even exclusively. I don't know why people would use this Sony DAW when PT (and even Cubase to an extent) exist and are much more commonplace throughout the audio industry.

What records do you know of made in Sony software? Not that that discredits the software in any way, it's probably very good. Just a musing I may have to Google to find out.

Again, 2 totally different things. This is not to "create records". Most of the users don't even use the multi-track function. This is for audio editing, straight. And the best tool at it. If you have not used it it's hard to explain what it is. But go with my word, it is the best.

You can compare it to Audacity, Audition (former WaveLab).

Please Sony, let Vegas be next!

+1 It kicks Premiere's and FCXP ass.

Not sure I am ready to forgive Sony their horrible software, the root-kit debacle and endless stream of copy-protected CD's. (Yes, strictly speaking Sony BMG was a different company..)

In part Sony software was one of the reasons to move away from Windows. I'd like to keep a civil tongue in public, so let me just whisper 'Sony Clié'.

ignorance isn't bliss

I wish I knew who was doing this promotion. They really have us talking, but it can't help that we keep talking about how awesome Sound Forge is if it is a promotion for Fruity Loops, or something like it.

I'm surprised that so many people are talking about DAWs when comparing to Sound Forge. SF is much more akin to Bias Peak (RIP) or SoundTrack Pro (also RIP). I used the heck out of SF in my PC days. It is a very capable audio editor. It's sister app, CD Architect, was my weapon of choice for building CDs (masters and dj mixes). I would welcome Sound Forge immediately if it were coming.

Enough, already! Who are you, software company teaser, and what do you have for me?

Great News

Sound Forge is a 2-track audio editor. The video seems to imply multi-track recording.

Soundforge has been a multi track for a while now.

Soundforge is the most Mac like piece of software on the PC! I hope its as friendly as the PC version!!

Co-sign on both SF AND CD Architect. The only apps I really miss since making the switch.

Exactly, a lot of mistaken comparisons in this thread. It's like comparing Soundtrack Pro to Cubase.

From my PC days, Sound Forge is the best at what it does IMHO.

Sound Forge is the only thing I miss on Windows. I actively dislike all audio editors (not DAWs) on Mac. Sadly, I cannot believe Sound Forge is being ported. It's probably some dumb crap. If anything good, based on this video, it's more likely to be Acid. But no matter what it is, that's apparently a lot of rewriting. The Windows API is used for everything in Sony's audio tools. Just like Cakewalk's. I'd really love if Sonar were ported. It would save me some conversion of all my projects.

Sound Forge[/url] audio recording and editing tools may be coming to the Mac.

Fantastic (potential) news! To all the people saying, "why would you switch from PT/Logic?" -- at least the last time I used Sound Forge, it wasn't about multi-track recording. It's a tool for shaping and editing sound files. Very useful for sound effects for applications, games, etc. Though if you need a weird sound in your song, it's good for that also. This has been a big hole in the Mac world.
