I played with the G3 again today.

It took only 5 minutes for the overheating message to appear and the brightness went down to 90%.

All I did was open the web browser and navigate through one single webpage.

I've owned a G3 for a few weeks and that has yet to happen.

Do you have the brightness set to 100% always?

Maybe you have it at 50%-70%, and that's why don't notice it.

I've seen this same behavior three times on the G3, so it's there. Put your screen brightness at 100% and surf the web or watch some videos and play games and then you'll see the message pop.

You're right. I don't have the brightness set to 100%. I never had a reason to.

Yep I ran my car at 10,000 RPM and the engine blew, piece of junk. Thats how I think every time someone says I set the brightness at 100% and it got hot. I had the G3 and never had an issue with over heating.

Yeah, but the problem is the brightness on the G3 is lower than other comparable phones, so having it at 100% is mandatory for some people (like me).

I had my G2 and Nexus 5 set at 70% and they were perfect, but it's not the same on every phone. On AMOLED phones I tend to need to have the brightness at 100% because colors are very saturated and darker.

I do understand that people are different. It just seems like it's so bright. That said I could see it being an issue if you are outside.

Similar experience I had. Difference was that I actually purchased it. I returned it less than 24 hours after receiving it.

I keep my lg g3 brightness at 50%. No biggie.

Battery life is awesome. Besides the faulty Facebook app that was the root cause of my battery problems (I elected to uninstall and go with factory version).

I get outstanding battery life.

I keep all my mobile devices at 50% brightness.

Your eyes get used to the level quickly.

The G3 camera shuts down in 22 and 44 seconds of 4K video recording. On the Z2 is similar I think, but the SGS5 can last longer.

It's this kind of problems that prevents me from buying these new flagships.

I'm sure I'll like the 2k resolution on the note 4. I wasn't impressed with the LG G3 display, in fact I kind of disliked it. At first I thought it might be because I'm so used to using super Amoled displays on my Samsung devices, however I'm fine with my iPod touch 5th gen, iPad Air and also found the iPhone 5S when I had it to be pleasant. Of course I prefer Amoled but I still found the display to be pleasing. Maybe it was the over sharpening that has been reported. I don't know. The dimness might have had something to do with it too.

Obviously it is all down to preference but I find the display on the S5 to be much better.

Oh well I guess you will just have to solider on with your S3.

Thats pretty bad. Just recorded 4K myself, I managed to hit the 5 minute point where it forces you to stop recording. And it got pretty hot, not hot enough to close the camera, but I think If I started recording again I could get it to force close. Before that the only 4K footage I shot was 22 seconds long.

One of the EASIEST comparisons is between the Oppo Find 7 vs 7a.
Check battery times. The 7a with the 1080p screen lasted longer. I see no benefit of QHD right now. A slight sharpness with text for 20-30% worse battery? It might be one of areas the G3 isn't great at. Suspect battery along with average indoor shots with low light.

Screen resolution is one of the top most useless numbers that some manufacturers want to throw out there similar to the megapixel count. 2k res should be built more for 8+ inch tablets that can carry larger batteries up to 6700 mAh like the Mi Pad. With 3000-4000 mAh as our max limit with 5-5.5 inch screen phones, 1080p res should also be our limit right now until battery tech starts to truly improve...
