Soooo, Watch vs Moto 360

Not worried, my wife will put the kibosh on that before it would ever get to me. 😉

And to be honest, she's not as obsessed with tech as many kids are today. She has a hand-me-down iPhone but usually forgets to bring it with her--same goes for her hand-me-down iPad Mini. Surprisingly, it gets used for a little chatting with friends but more often for homework, believe it or not. 😱

Now my boys, that's a whole different animal. They haven't met a gadget they don't like. 😉

Regardless, I just don't think teens/tweens is Apple's target demographic for the Apple Watch, not at the prices they're going to be charging.

Agreed. I just think they put in a little for everyone. They also created a new ecosystem for it too to keep the money rolling.

If anything, I'm glad they've priced it out of my daughter's means or I have a feeling I'd be getting little custom taps/buzzes/drawings/emoji/heartbeats/etc all day and night. 😛
 
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but anyone else wonder how difficult the digital crown will be to use with the watch on your wrist. Already setting time with a regular watch crown is a huge PIA, I can't imagine controlling a watch with one...

It sucks. When I need to wind my PAM I take it off.
They say it was the best part of the aWatch, but I think it'll turn out to be the worst.

Funny how it only gets "about a day of battery life", but not one person in the media has blasted it. I keep hearing they'll work it out in months.

But everyone blasted the Gear and the Moto 360 for having a day of battery life.
 
Agree about the crown.

Smacks of being on the watch principally for design and appearance - so they could say it relates to a traditional watch. Then they had to figure out some actual use for it and came up with a lame duck.

The level of hypocrisy when it comes to Apple is ridiculous.
 
The mkbhd video talks about the crown, didn't really occur to me

I don't get the crown either, seems like it would be harder to use. Instead of pinch and zoom where my fingers are already on the watch screen now I have to lift my fingers and contort my wrist then squeeze my fingers in the small space between the crown and my wrist to operate it. I'd have to go back and forth doing this to manipulate lets say a map, alternating between panning and zooming.

I'd reserve judgement until you have tried it. It's basically a home button. Pushing it in takes you home or brings up Siri. Turning it scrolls through various items. No need to pinch and zoom because magnification is automatic.

I don't know if you have a watch with a crown. But turning it while it's on the wrist is not that comfortable. Doing it once I can live with. Doing it throughout the day will be a pain.

I do have a few normal watches and using the crown is a rare occasion. With that said, the Apple Watch Crown is larger than normal watch crowns which may make utilizing it easier.

I thought Apple specifically mentioned zooming in maps as one of the crown features? Not sure though.

That was my impression too - it feels like ios and android have swapped for their watches
 
That was a good perspective on the two platforms. The way I read it? Apple is relying on developers to push their wearables forward with unique use cases and Google is using their teams to try and maintain a streamlined approach. I think it works for both because apple has a much more stringent policy on things that make it to the app store while Google has little to none, so they have to close things down to ensure a good experience.

It is a bit ironic...Apple with a bit more function and Android Wear with the cleaner, more sophisticated design. Go figure....

I would imagine the 'spin knob' is an attempt to keep it looking like a traditional wrist watch which I personally think works very well. I like a watch with a crown as it adds to the style IMO.

I thought the watch is expected to be about $349? Do you consider that too expensive? That is at the bottom end of most mid range mechanical watches in pricing terms. My every day beater costs about that now and I think Apple have offered this device pretty damned cheap. Many were expecting it to be around the $600 mark pre launch. I won't be getting one though as I like traditional watches too much every if I think it looks like a speak piece of design. I'd sooner have a sub on my wrist 😉

That $349 is for the small, women's watch with a 1.5" screen.
The cheapest men's watch will be $400-$500 depending on layout.
The Edition watch is already priced at $1200.

And every single one is about as ugly is I have ever seen.

Well if they want to compete with serious watch makers then they have to price themselves similarly and those prices suggest they have. I don't think Omega, Tag Heuer, Rolex or Seiko have anything to worry about.

Or Tissot. 😉 I'd take a Tag over any smartwatch. Love Tags. Rolex's are nice but to me their time has passed.

I can't say I'm a fan of Tag's except for the Monaco range. Rolex are certainly still very fashionable even if they are out of most peoples price range including my own. The submariner has been and continues to be one of the most copied watches in the industry. It hasn't dated in 50 years and I don't think it will in our life time personally. 🙂
