Sorry, I need just a little help please...

Well, i bought an iphone on ebay and I'd like to upgrade the firmware, but I'm a little nervous. So here are the details:
Firmware 1.0.2
Not sure what's already been done to the phone...
Installer not working
Unlocked, I'm using it with t-mo
I use windows xp.

Could i just go to itunes and click restore, then use ziphone or something? Or what about iliberty? Im just scared of ruining the phone, so any helpful advice/reassurance would be appreciated... Thank you.

I actually upgraded my FW for the first time yesterday, from 1.0.2 to 1.1.4.

All i did was restore the phone via itunes (be sure to restore it and not update it).
Then i used Ziphone to jailbreak, activate and unlock it all with one click, and now its working perfectly on 1.1.4
