I'm having trouble sorting my Finder to display my most recently downloaded file at the top. I have both date modified/created fields and when i try to sort them my most recently downloaded files are not at the uppermost top. they seem to be "scattered" around other files that are sort of recent, making it hard to locate the new files. is there a way to sort them properly in the order i download files?

Quite often, with email attachments especially, file dates are not the date I received them but they are the actual file creation date. I know this is confusing when I sort stuff by date but I'd much rather know that dmg file I'm looking at came out in 2007 even though I downloaded or received it in an email yesterday. Of course a better way to tell is to mount the dmg file and examine the file dates of the contents.

Which browser are you using? Are you getting files via http or ftp? I'm pretty sure files sent via ftp get today's date on the receiving end but files sent via http can preserve the date of the file on the server depending on the browser and the way the server is set up.

Oops. I'm using FF 4. I just downloaded a version of Onyx released back in April from MacUpdate and it got today's date. Inside the dmg file, Onyx.app had an April date.
