I have recently added a number of photos to the Photos App on my iMac, some automatically via iCloud from my iPhone, and some transferred via SD card from a camera.

I cannot find any way to make them appear in the correct chronological order.

I have done this before after previous trips away and it just seemed to happen automatically.

The photos appear in the order they were "added" iPhone first and the the camera ones.

I have found a "Sort" option in the View menu, but when I click on it I only see one greyed out option "Keep sorted by oldest date added". I cannot see anywhere how I can change this to something like "Sort by date picture taken"

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

Incidentally I tried moving them all into a new Album to see if I could sort them there, but the result was the same.

Rename the photos, use some 3 or 4 digit number code, and have them in different albums, for example "holiday album, pic 001,002" and so on.

Photos app has two main level views. One is Photos and the other All Photos. Photos keeps them in the order taken and All Photos in the order imported. In High Sierra, All Photos will be renamed Imports to make things easier.

Many thanks, that has solved my problem. All Photos was at the "Apparent" top of the side bar, I then scrolled up to find Photos, which as you say, has them in the correct order. I was then able to create an album of our latest trip with all in chronological order. I have fairly recently changed from using iPhoto and some things are different!

You’re welcome. I’m glad it worked.
