So this is the second time this problem accour.

First time this happend I installed iLife and opened Garageband whilst listening to iTunes. After that the sound was a complete mess. I had to restart the computer and turn my receiver on and off a couple of times to get the sound going again.

I googled my hands sore to find a solution. Tried everything. Updated OS X, updated my firmwire on my reciever. Nothing worked.

Got so tired of the whole thing so I made an format and new clean install of OS X. That did the trick.

But yesterday, it happend again. I installed Sims 3 and it started up by it self while I listened in iTunes.

Same **** all over again. So tired of it...I guess there is some sort of conflict? It seems that iTunes/OS X no longer recognizes my music as PCM anymore.

If I try to play a song in VLC for example, same thing. No sound. But if I play an movie with DTS sound, I get sound.

Anyone know what I can do besides do a clean install again? Would be much appricated!

Here's my setup:

Mac Mini (2012) i5 proc, 8gb ram yada-yada. OS X 10.8.3
Pioneer VSX-527 Reciever

By "Tried everything" Could you give us a brief description of what you attempted to do to resolve the issue before doing a clean install. If you're using an external sound card or Using an external device for sound output, make it the default option in the sound preferences pane. Is this a recent issue since you updated to 10.8.3, or has this fault persisted since you first installed mountain lion?
