Im getting cracks and pops from my speakers, about once an hour with my 09Mini for like a second. This never happened with my PC so the speakers should be good, its a 2.1 logitech system.

    Any ideas?

Exactly once an hour? Could it be something like mail no new messages sound or similar?

Could it be some sort of electrical interference near you, your heating switching on or something?

No it comes randomly. Sometimes a single, but loud POP, sometimes like a slight static crackle for a couple of seconds. I will check all the cable placements when i get home. I just want to make sure its not my mini thats faulty..that would suck.

I had the same problem with my iMac when I had it connected to a cheap stereo with analog cable. After switching to Toslink digi cable the problem went away. I also had the same old stereo connected to my PC and there was no popping or cracking, but when connected to iMac= snap, crackle , pop.

I have it too and my speakers are the Audio Engine A5's. Must be something to do with the analog audio out on the mini

I have the same problem. It occurs occasionally. I thought this cracking sound was my monitor, but I hear it now and it is my mini through my speakers! I have creative speakers.

I found that my iMac has the occasional crackle and pop coming from the speakers. It's just the connection, Apple, like most of the industry uses cheap Realteck soundcards not expensive high end X-Fi cards with gold connectors.

So is there a solution to this? No fix from apple or a cheeky download - may search for antipop bits and pieces. Does anyone know if a USB connection, I think Bose have these, eradicates the popping problem?

This is probably electrical interference or static via the outlet that the Mac and/or speakers are plugged into. In my case, whenever the attic fan kicks off, I get a pop through the speakers attached to my '09 Mini, because they're all on the same electrical circuit. The best thing to do is try to find and isolate the source of the pops that are on the same circuit, such as an appliance or other electrical unit that may regularly switch on or off. There are also outlet filters available to help eliminate this.
