Sound In on a MDD

Is there a sound in for a microphone on a MDD G4. I have plugged my mic into the socket next to the sound out but am getting no response.

or

Will I have to get a USB microphone?
 
I'm pretty sure I've successfully used a mic in that port. Go to Sys Prefs -> Sound -> Input and make sure that the Line In port is selected.
