sound is not working

my rMB's MacOS sound is not working after watching video in VLC player, and I have to restart MacOS to solve this issue. How to solve it without restarting?

Same here. A restart has been the only thing that works for me.

What version of VLC do you use? If the latest, then try to downgrade and use version 2.2.3. Worth a try, it solved my problem (though it was a different kind of sound bug).
