I have a Power Mac duel G5. We had a power outage the other day and it happened while I was on my mac. Everything works fine except the sound. I have it hooked up to a Aquos TV and the sound is connected to the analog audio line-out port. I plugged in my headphones in the front and don't get any sound through there either. I searched through all the apple support documents but none of them worked. I also took it up to the apple store to have a genius check it out but they couldn't fix it. He ran a diagnostic and said that it shows that its working fine and detects the headphones. They said it would cost a thousand dollars to fix whatever is wrong with it, which is what I am trying to avoid. If there is anyone who can help me out, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't know about exactly what is wrong with your sound output, but one possible solution that certainly wouldn't cost a thousand dollars would be something like a Griffin iMic 2. This would plug into a USB port or hub, and (hopefully) give you audio out (and in) that would likely be better quality than your G5's sound out (and in) was anyway, because it's away from all the electronically noisy components inside the computer.

And if it doesn't work, you could keep it for a future mac or take it back to wherever you bought it I guess. And if your internal sound out decides to work again, you have upgraded your sound output anyway.

    Here's the official page:

They're available at most mac gear sellers / websites (see amazon links below for example). I have the older version on my G5, just for quality issues with input in Garageband (much less unwanted noise), but I use it for my headphones too.
