hi im new to mac and i am considering buying a powerbook 15inch 1.67ghz.
i recently purchased a set of 5.1 seround sound speakers.
i know for PC notebooks they make mini pci sound cards that allow a system to support 5.1 seround sound.
my question is there a piece of equipment out there that can do the same thing on a powerbook.

im not too sure. but if the speakers have an optical audio jack, it might work, but tht might be just for the 17" Powerbook.

best have a look at the technial specifications on apples site for the powerbook www.apple.com/hardware

The 17" PowerBook has both optical in and out, and will support 5.1 from capable Apps like the DVD player.

If you don't want a 17" (why not???) then you'll need an external interface of which there are many.

Check out the digital interface spec on your receiver and then search for a system that talks to it.
