Hi everyone,

I am looking for a tech genius to solve a mystery for me please:

I have Sony Bravia X900E android tv which is hdmi arc capable. I had a soundbar which was connected through the tv using hdmi arc port. However, just recently I have purchased a new sony soundbar MT300 which doesnt have hdmi output, rather it connects using optical output.

I have connected it to the TV and everything is fine except it obviously doesn't work as good a my previous setup where the soundbar used to turn on and off with the tv remote and the same remote could manage volume and mute buttons.

This also causes probelms with the apple tv 4K where now apple tv remote only changes the volume of tv, not the soundbar.

Can someone advice me a workaround or a converter so I could somehow achieve that capability of controlling the volume using tv remote that could make it possible to connect the soundbar to the arc port?

Cheers

I’m gobsmacked that a current model sound bar does not have a HDMI connection, I’m surprised you chose it too.

A Logitech Harmony remote would solve your problem.

It came as a promotion with Sony tv that we bought last year otherwise you are right, i would never have willingly chosen it. The sound bar is sony HT-MT300

I have found a workaround,, the soundbar was builtin bluetooth and I have connected it through that instead of optical cable. tbh I cannot sense a difference in sound quality while connecting it through bluetooth.
