Currently, I only have 3 programs running, and my i just got my macbook yesterday. Yesterday it had the same issue, but it stopped making the noise when i quit a couple programs. It sounds like the fan inside the laptop to keep the machine cooled, but i'm not particularly sure, seeing how i am a first time mac user. Is it a problem that i can hear it through earphones without music on? Its not terribly loud, but it is noticeble. I was wondering if there is any way i can change a certain setting so it won't be so loud. Is this normal? Help?

Depending on what programs you were running, the fans being on is perfectly normal. On my MBP they are ALWAYS on. Granted they normally don't go above 2000 RPM when doing non-labor intensive work, but when I'm doing working on like 3 things and working the system pretty good, it's not uncommon to have my fans spool up to 3-4000 RPM and you can definitely hear them, over music and all. Now, I'm not sure if the MB fans are louder or quieter than the MBP fans, but mine sounds like a small jet engine when spinning up.
