empower not raise a new problem.
1st I'm a human being. 2nd I'm a male and love women, enough to support their independence of power, intelligence, and freedom.
I do however have issues with these statements from the inventor.
So if this "condom" doesnt cause any permanent damage to a penis, then why does a surgeon, and not a nurse, is the only one qualified to remove it? Surgeory does permanent scarring. If this is not a tool to punish men but to empower women, what ever happened to offering free self-defense classes (monitored by men & women; both armed military), and the common sense never to walk alone at dark, or increased police patrols?? Sure its possible that rapes mostly involve an attacker the victim already knows, but through education on this last part would still lead to the male attacker being caught.
So this leaves me with 2 major issues.
Scenario 1) If ever these condoms reach outside of South Africa, say to North America, and a local female wearing one going to Can Cun for spring break fest (or whatever the huge migration parties that you nuts in the U.S.A. do before out of college) and gets drunk or very tipsy and decides to have concentual sex? Woops, dont want to be in that position!
Scenario 2) What if just like scenario 1, if these are available outside of S.A. and some jealous psycho girl decides to have sex with a boyfriend/ex-boyfriend just to get even? Love & Hate mixed together can make people do some viscous things.
PS; another 2 things is does this condom protect the female from sexually transmitted diseases, given that AIDS is already at an alarming rate - the highest in the world - and has been for almost 17 years and still growing. Its one thing to get raped (male or female) but its another thing, especially if your mentally & emotionally strong to continue with life just to find out that your life will only last 6 yrs if your lucky (due to the high cost of HIV drugs in South Africa)!! Furthermore, It isnt males that only rapes females, females do at times rape females although very rare.

Sonet Ehlers said:Rapex attaches itself to the shaft of the penis and can only be removed by a surgeon, forcing a rapist to go to a hospital, where the crime would presumably be uncovered.
"He has got to turn himself in at the nearest hospital and then the police will catch him," said Ehlers, who added that the device does not cause any permanent injury to the man's penis.
"This is not a tool to punish men, but a device to empower women," she said.
