How will this ever more granular level of information help anyone? What's next? The UPS driver's social security number?

no, it would be interesting to see what the lead time is from it being built to shipped.

I couldn't agree more. It's very apparent from what we've see with watch deliveries that the manufacture date is of the internal module, not the assembly of the watch.

So, how exactly is this useful information???

The taptic engine issue is an internal module, right? With the Chinese ones failing, and their switching to use the Japanese ones? Moderately relevant I guess per that.

Umm. That issue was discovered before production started (or so the story was written). So, still no real value.
