Ok, I was in the camp where I didn't care, but seeing renderings of the 6 in that deep a grey just looks fantastic. Plus it largely mitigates the antenna bands.

I hope they darken the 6s to the 6th gen iPod touch's colour!

If that's something that you like, how about Neucase? It's about $300 to switch out the case but the Black Matte is awesome!

Glad someone else noticed this!! I just upgraded to the iPad Air 2 from the mini 2 (both space gray) and noticed that the 2014 SG is significantly lighter than SG from 2013! not sure which one I like better, but it certainly has lightened up a lot. Glad it's not just me that noticed :)

EDIT: yeah I like the darker version better. I think the lighter color looks pretty good on iPads and the darker looks good on the iPhones and iPods :)

I wish Apple would go back to the darker grey. It is almost silver now not grey. I think that is false advertising, lol. Apple bring the darker grey back.

This happens between identical products as well. My 5 in "slate" is an entirely different tone of black than my brother's 5.

Yeah, that was one thing that was also noted at the time of Scuffgate and the 5. It all depended on just how long that particular phone was held in the anodization process. Longer meant darker.

I think to combat Scuffgate, towards the end of the production run, Apple was holding the phones in the process for a shorter amount of time then they did in the beginning.

Just my take.

I totally understand your position on the matter. It just comes down to personal taste I think. For me, quite a bit of it has to do with the fact that I am a graphic designer by trade. I deal with color as part of my job. Certain colors I personally like more than others. Black is one of those.
Me too but not in graphics. I'm a design engineer and deal with RAL charts for certain finishes and injection moulding colours. It's probably more of a focus in your profession though. My wife is a graphic designer and runs her own business along with running a marketing division by day so she would be able to talk about Pantone until the cows come home lol.
