If the PVD was as tough as the coating on the watch, I expect it would have been untouched by that fall. The watch has certainly been a lot more durable than that.

The DLC coating on the space black watch makes it more expensive than the silver watch. Would everyone have paid more for that or gone with silver?

I saw both X's on display and had a hard time deciding based on looks alone (both look great).

In the end, I voted for silver because it matches my watch. Of course, it's in an Apple leather case like the majority in this thread. The leather case has such a high end look and feel that it's the only thing (in my opinion) worthy of covering such a good looking iPhone.

Pretty sure Apple's charging the same price these days. (maybe there was a delta with the Series 0)

Edit: Actually, I don't think there was....the delta with S0 was that initially you could only get the SBSS with the link bracelet (which made it a lot more expensive).

My bad. I only compared the Milanese Loop versions. For some reason, they charge more for Space Black if you get that band.

[Edit] And yes, the Series 0 SB only came with the link bracelet, but it cost more than the SS with link bracelet.

Exactly. I have been using Apple's leather case since the iPhone 5s era.

Mine is in Apple silicone case from day one and it's in pristine condition. Thinking of removing the case and use it naked after a month.

Yeah, I think Apple still charges more for the bands as the PVD process slows down the production for the bands - likely more so than the watch bodies (hence why they're the same price).

Mine's naked. Every time I think there's a blemish, it turns out to be oil and smudges and just rubs off. I don't blame people for being worried. The finish looks like cheaper versions on other products that eventually flake. I don't know anything about the materials or engineering, so I'm talking out of my ass.

Nothing, despite being literally pried in and out of numerous hard shell cases.

Certainly the SG is much more resistant to ordinary wear and tear.

My silver is fine so far, but I expect some scratches on the exposed bottom band since I also have the Apple leather case. The coats I wear have metal snaps and zippers so it's going to rake across it at some point.

Not sure why so many posts with cases saying they are perfect still. Well obviously. You have the phone covered up

Well the polished stainless steel band on the silver phones.....are reportedly getting micro scratches even WITH a case on. I can believe it because the polished Stainless steel on the silver phones more prone to micro scratches. I’m actually Wondering if that is happening with space gray phones as well.

My Space Gray has been naked since launch day and not even a micro scratch yet.

Been in the Apple leather case. Taken out to clean a few times, flawless. Don’t think it will scratch unless it comes into contact with something rough. My SS SB Apple Watch is also mint after 6 weeks and I wear it everyday.

I like the look of the SG X much better than the silver but I’m wondering how the PVD coating will hold up long term. What’s your experience been so far? Does it scratch easily or does it seem durable?
Mine’s perfect. Not a scratch or blemish. Bought the phone last November. It’s usually been in a case, but not always. I’ve dropped the phone a few times from a height of 3 or 4 feet (in a case, thankfully) and the phone remains in perfect, like-new condition.

If you like Space Gray, go for it!

shockingly, the only scratches that are on my X are on the back glass.. bought day 1. stainless pretty much perfect. I was expecting some ipod classic/apple watch type scuffing.

My Space Gray X from launch day last November has not a single scratch or blemish, and I dropped it a few times on hardwood floors & tile from about 4-5 feet. I use Apple leather & silicone cases as well as 3rd party cheap thin cases. Some weeks I'll go naked with no case. Still flawless.
