They're using a stronger alloy of aluminum, but it says nothing about the anodization. I assume type II anodizing is used on the iPhone/iPad. I'd be curious to see if they've switched to type III (hard anodizing), which is stronger and whose anodization process takes twice as long. However, I don't have high hope as the Sport models are priced low at $349-399 so why use better anodization than the more expensive iPhone models and not at least advertise this?

Yeah they mention the anodizing but nothing special about it.

Has anyone any side-by-side photos for comparison?

Now that more real-life photos are out, Space Gray on the Watch is indeed darker. I'm hoping they'll switch to the new Space Gray for iPhone 6s and future iDevices. Not a fan of the light Space Gray on iPhone 6/6+ which looks essentially silver.

What I actually dislike about the light space gray is the strong contrast to the black front of the device. I really can't stand the combination of black/silver somehow. The white front blends in so nice with the silver back, same for the slate colored back of the iPhone 5. The space gray on the 5s was actually fine, I think partially because it seems to be slightly darker than the color of the iPhone 6 and on the other hand because the glass plates on the back of it are black - that makes the back in general look darker somehow.

Personally, I think Space Gray on the 5s was a major disappointment compared to the Black and Slate iPhone 5, even though it was a bit darker than the iPhone 6/6+'s Space Gray, as it's nowhere as dark as the original Space Gray on the iPad. I'll be delighted if they'd switch to the new Space Gray on the 6s. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with four colors (Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, and the new Space Gray).

I believe they will. The new Macbook (12") is the same color as the apple watch sport. I can't imagine they will retain the older color when they have two different devices using a new shade of color. Same goes with the gold iPhone. The gold on the new Macbook is darker. I prefer the darker shades as you can tell the difference between easier.

Don't think we'll see a rose gold color on the iPhone or iPad. But I would like to see one. I'm sure there is an audience for it.

Yeah, totally with you. But what I really wish for, is that they don't keep on changing the color every year. There's no way to have a consistent color for all devices (iPhone, iPod, iPad, MacBook, Watch) if they keep on changing it.

I doubt it, because they don't have a regular gold Watch Sport 1. They instead make an actual gold watch and an actual rose gold watch.

It's quite possible that Rose Gold will come to the iPhone first then to the Watch Sport, maybe not v2 but later generation, unless they don't do a yearly refresh but wait longer in between. Remember that the innards and features are exactly the same across the Sport, SS and Edition so they can only differentiate them exterior-wise. No reason why they can't introduce iPhone's yellow gold and a rose gold in the Watch Sport.

It is much darker on the watch.

I just don't understand why. If Apple is going to go to the extent of giving a colour a new name, at least make the colour consistent or call it something else like they did with slate for iPhone 5.
