Hi

I have always like the look of the space grey MacBooks but never purchased one and also opted for silver due to fear of the edges of the device wearing away the colour and also around the ports and palm rests.

How durable would you say the space grey colour is? I am generally very careful if my devices, but have seen some photos of bad premature wear on anything other than silver online.
My bf and I both have space grey macbooks and they look gorgeous as ever. I spilled a large cup of tea on mine last winter and my best efforts couldn’t save it :( Still looks pretty though. I’ll have it looked at eventually but I’m back in school for a doctorate, so it’s good time for an upgrade anyway. Bf bought me an iPad Pro(space grey). I love that thing, was using it for everything with an external keyboard, but it’s not fully compatible with the programs I’m required to use. I’m ordering a new macbook, planned on space grey but wanted to see pics of and opinions on starlight. I love the grey, but don’t want to get in a rut. I had a silver before and def prefer the grey.

Another space grey owner here. Had it for 4 years; used every day; and it look brand new — no port wear, no case wear, and so on — with one exception. I didn't baby it, didn't put a skin on it, schlepped it around, etc. and it still look good,

The exception? Two key caps showed wear and their backlight area became bigger and the letters this distorted. Looked terrible. But I had similar wear on a silver MBA and on white iBook — on that one, Apple replaced the detachable key top platform three times under AC!

As to aesthetics, I’ve always found space grey to be the professional look and choice. Classy. Upscale white collar office, if slightly boring after years and years of it. Silver always looks industrial to me. Commonplace. Unfinished. Not a big fan of those metallic kitchen appliances, either.

I now have the starlight MBA and it's marvelous, quite appealing — not garish, perhaps a bit silvery in certain lighting conditions, but a wonderful change from the space grey along with panache.

No wear on it at all, not even the keyboard.

I agree 💯% with Big Blur — try it and see how you like it!
I was hoping to hear more negative. I love the grey, but wanted to see what the starlight was all about. Ugh, I hate making decisions!

From my wife's M1 MBA to my daughter's M2 and my M3, I have seen no issues with durability. None are in cases or treated with particular care to the point of fear that they may get scratched or scuffed.

My 2018 Space Grey MacBook Air has no signs of Wear, didn't take particular care with it either especially in the past few years. I want to upgrade to the M4 but the Silver is too bright and the Midnight is a fingerprint magnet. Bring back Space Grey Apple pleeeeeassseee!!!!!

I’ve bought space gray back to back and it’s good. No concerns. I’ve had my 15 midnight MacBook Air and same thing the issues with metal getting scratched up are absolutely not present.
