Kinda confused and worried. Space seems to be evaporating off my hard drive. Yesterday I had 27GB free, today I have 20GB free after downloading 50MB of CoD4, Silverlight, and XBench. What the hell is going on?!

Are you sure CoD4 (+ other) was only a 50MB download? I can see CoD4 going all the way to 6 GB mind you, as its a game; really graphic intensive game.

I'm sure the CoD4 download was only 50MB, since I stopped the download there :p you're right, it is 6GB.

Thanks for the advice about Disk Inventory, I'll try it now.

Now this makes things clearer. You stopped the download, this makes a difference.

What happened is that OS X allocated the space for CoD4. Even though you stopped the download, OS X has still the disk space allocated and in reserve for when the download is resumed it is there and isn't taken up by something else.

I think I've worked it out.
My best guess is that the download allocated itself 6.8GB of space, and the system took this to mean that 6.8GB had been used up, thus showing a 6.8GB decrease in the free space. As you can see:

It has 6.8GB to it's name, however it's not even 1% of the way to complete download. If my hard drive carries on decreasing with the download, I'll come back crying xD

If anybody can confirm my theory, please feel free.

EDIT. Of course, it's a totally legal download.

Thank you very much for this, I thought as much. I didn't see your post before I started creating mine though.

Thanks thanks thanks :D :D :D

I advise you to remove the images, as they clearly show some kind of piracy, which is not allowed on this forum.

And yes, as you and jav have stated, the space is allocated/reserved from Transmission.

Lol...:D:D:D:D On a side note, many people do mistaken my name... I should reconsider a name change shouldn't I?:cool:

That's the perfect reason to change a name. If not completely, than what about sun? Or oracle? Hmm, my associations seem to be off tonight.

What the hell.

Btw, the word munching puts images in my head that have nothing to do with hdd space and so.

Okay, that shall be it for tonight, it's 2 in the morning for me anyway. Enough posts gathered. Such an addictive place.
