Do I have the first ISS photo on an iPhone? I just had the notification of the international space station was coming over the horizon on my sky safari pro app. I ran outside and set my iPhone 11 Pro Max on a small tripod so I could get 30” exposure time. You can see the space station get dim (second photo) as it moves into the Earths shadow.

I accidentally caught the ISS when testing out night pics. I only realised when I went to go back indoors and caught sight of it in the sky and by the time I tried to take a photo it dimmed away.

Checked the photos and must have been a short exposure as it just looks like a wide star, lol.
Not impressive I know but it's inspired me to try to get a good one next time it's scheduled in my area with clear skies.

I was testing night mode on iPhone release day and caught a picture of the ISS flyover of the east coast of the US.

That’s cool. I guess I’m not the only one

Did you use the stock photo app to take a 30” exposure? This must be new capability in the iPhone 11 Pro as I think previous iPhones could only take exposures up to 0.5s.

yes it was the stock iPhone camera using night mode. It defaults to 3 seconds in dark scenes, using the slider at the bottom (portrait mode) or to the right (held horizontal) you can get up to 10 seconds handheld. If you mount your iPhone on a small tripod and holder, you will get a maximum of 30 seconds when sliding that slider all the way to the left. I’ll provide a screenshot so I can tell you which slider I’m talking about unless you already know.

The iPhone senses when it’s on a tripod and will give you a maximum of 30 seconds if the scene you are photographing is dark enough. Otherwise you might get 5 seconds, or 10 seconds etc. but aiming it into the sky will give you at least 30 seconds. The slider is circled in white on this photograph. Putting your iPhone on a small tripod will give you the best results And will possibly use every single image that it takes when it stacks them together. 1CF6096B-7803-47D0-A1B7-A11BB4BCC39E.jpeg
