Yeah but those mini cd's where able to play on regular cd players too, if I remember correctly. :p

I remember those....they were pretty cool. Unfortunately, you can't use them with slot loading drives, because there's no mechanism to lock them in place.

I personally think we'll get SSD standard on all MBPs on the next revision. Actually 'flash' chips ala MBA so it too can be thinner and lighter.

Then you're basically discontinuing the MBP line and adding 15/17" notebooks to the Air group. (Not exactly but the parallels are there).

I'm going to purchase a 13" MBP next year and really don't want to be caught in this market transition regarding puny (albeit faster) Flash Drives... forced to use a 128/256 GB drive for years until the prices drop on this technology. And if they make the MBP thinner there's no way to put in a 1TB platter drive.

And regarding the removal of the OD. If Apple does this I'm betting they'll initially throw in the external drive for free then charge for it down the road. (Just like they did with the Apple Remote).

There is no way to put in a 1TB drive into the 13" Macbook Pro as it is now..

Its possible to put one in, but I think they are talking about APPLE shipping the MBPs with 1TB HDs.

No I was talking about putting one in on your own.. And as usual I spoke without doing good research... My apologies. I read somewhere that the Macbook used the 9.5mm drives and at 12.5 wouldn't fit.. I should have done some more researching about it before I bought my new drive..

What i would like to see is the Optical drive removed, but COME WITH the unit, so have an external super drive that will come with it for the same price. extend the battery across, move the Hard Drive down a bit, and fill the rest of the space with the motherboard, allowing for a better video card and processor. I wish i could do a photoshop picture of this....

Apple doesn't include a remote, disk drive or mDP dongle with the MBA. There's no chance they'd include it with the MBP.

Good point however...

Given the imminent change from conventional Hard Drives to flash memory in the new MBP's where the cost per gigabyte ratio is out of this world... AND coupling that with the removal of yet another device... Steve-ie boy may just feel so badly about it (and the Apple marketeers as well) that he'll dig real deep and decide to eat the $25 it costs to make an external optical drive by giving one to even the Air users.

Also, Free external OD's to all previous MBA owners. (Just don't hold the damn thing in your left hand!)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

I can say I never use the optical drive, I used too on my old desktop to burn DVDs but now I've got my MBP I just hook it up via HDMI to my tv and can enjoy full hd films an shows straight of the mac! Looks amazing too!
Death to the optical drive!!
Would make sense to get rid of it and put in some extra batteries!

I doubt it

Exactly. The dual-drive setup works great and is very handy.
x2, I have two 500 GB drives fitted to mine, and love it. I have ~700 GB of data, so I *need* the space. Before ditching my optical drive in favor of the second HDD, I was using a firewire 2.5" drive. Worked well, but one more thing to carry around. I have the optical drive in an external enclosure now, and almost never use it anymore.
