I've never gotten a spam TXT in the 2yrs owning an iPhone. Today I got my first one from some place telling me if I owe more than $10k to the IRS to contact them blah blah.

Trying to think of who I gave my # out to in the past week. ATT has my info but I highly doubt they would do anything... but then again is this TXT coming from an email?

I just went to ATT blocking options and clicked block to all 3 options listed... anyone else getting SPAM SMSs since owning the i4. Just wondering where they got my info...better not be ATT.

Funny I've gotten that IRS message as well; I got a buddy that thinks it's funny to list my info on spam sites like "win a FREE iPad", etc. Lame.

I got my ip4 2 weeks ago, and I received my first spam text last week from flycell about receiving back your iq score if you reply to the text. I was seriously pissed off and nervous that it would be the first of many more spam, but I haven't received anymore since.

Oh, the website is now working for me. I've tried it many times over 3G, but this the first I used wifi and it works perfectly. Thanks.

Smart Limits

to block calls and text you need to sign up for "Smart Limits" it costs about $5 bucks a month I think, but if you've been with Cingular/AT&T for a long time they'll give it to you free

Also most spam SMS can be stopped if you reply: STOP

Some people actually believe that the IRS would send them an SMS or e-mail stating that they owe $10K or more and even go ahead and pay up. The IRS always starts with a paper letter when there is an issue.

But isn't that bad because the spammer is receiving a confirmation that it's a valid number, sort of like asking to be taken off an emailing list?

But I think it's like being put on the DO NOT CALL list, by law they are not allowed to send you anymore sms.

Thank you for this tip!!

SMS spamming is usually done by a "Robo Dialer"....it can determine a land line from a cell number.... land lines get the annoying voicemails while cells get the annoying SMS...how do I know? because at the college I work at we use one to bombard our students with information they should already know!

AT&T has nothing to do with those spam messages that you received, as their privacy policy rules do not allow them to give your number. Most likely it was jest a random text sent out to a lot of numbers besides yours, looking for a response… I got something like that when I had Verizon, which only happened once or twice.

What law is this as it pertains to spam SMS? Unless it's an actual law, they're not obligated to comply.

Hence why you should't reply to it.

Even if it is a law, it is trivial to send spam from offshore where the local government doesn't care about spam, or actually encourages it.

No one cares about the spam laws, even in the country. Any of the people that get caught spamming in the US are always actually charged with something else besides spamming.

lol, something tells me that the companies offering viagra for 5 cents per pill, or the latest penile enlargers, or free access to naked Jennifer Aniston pics don't care too much about following the rules of the DNC list.
