I would venture to say that this has NOTHING to do with the phone you have. The most obvious thing that could cause you to get "spam" texts is probably from some type of form you have filled out where you entered in your cell number and that info was then used by the business or individual collecting that info to do some advertising via text messaging. I would be willing to bet that this is what has happened to you. Always read the fine print where it talks about what the information will be used for. This could come from a contest you entered, a survey you filled out, an order form, anything really. Some businesses sell info like phone numbers and addresses to third party companies.

How to block spam texts with AT&T.

Sample quote from the page
Last time I checked, I could not find a way to block spam text messages through my AT&T account. Today, I received another spam text message, so I decided to look around again, and I was delighted to discover that AT&T now provides a way to selectively block text messages. I have no idea when AT&T started providing this option - I never received any kind of announcement of it and I haven’t seen anyone blogging about it, so I think it is a little known, probably recently released, option.

Now you can login to a Messaging Preferences page and set options to block text messages. You’ll have to register your phone number and a password before you can log in (even if you are already logged into your AT&T account). After you register, AT&T will text message a 5 digit registration number to your cell phone and then you can complete your registration and start changing options.

Your choices are to:

Block text messages sent as email (from email accounts)
Block all multimedia messages send as email
Block all messages sent from mobile numbers
Block messages sent from specific email accounts or domains
Allow all messages sent from specific email accounts or domains

As long as you don't continue getting them, don't worry about it

I got like 4-5 spam text messages a few months ago and that was it....none before and none since

I also had a friend just get a 3G and got a few spam messages but nothing since though it has just been a week or so
