Spatial Audio in CarPlay Now Rolling Out in Volvo Vehicles

Volvo this week confirmed that Spatial Audio support in CarPlay, powered by Dolby Atmos, is now rolling out to EX90 models via a software update.

Volvo first detailed Spatial Audio for the EX60, EX90, and ES90 in July. It requires the optional Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

I live in a college town and I've joked with my wife that the sorority girls with Volvos have parents who love them because they are exceptionally well built from a safety perspective. I think the XC60 has zero reported fatalities in the entire history of the vehicle across multiple generations.

Volvo does do a few things well besides safety: their seating is very comfortable and their premium sound systems are usually among the best performing in the their segment.

For a lot of us, a car lacking in modern technology is a good thing. That's why having Carplay available is so nice - I don't have to care about the infotainment otherwise.

If you were driving anything but their EV's, the technology has barely changed since 2016, but it was very forward looking even then.

Wireless CarPlay was the most notable in most models if not all ( I can't remember) that I tried, there we a number of other trim options that were not an option, it seems like they are geared to an older crowed I guess. I went with and Audi A7 ultimately

That's interesting as I thought the complete opposite. Why would I want spacial audio in a car? Stereo is fine for music and podcasts while driving.
