I have a Sony SRS-BT100 Speaker connected to my Airport Express, through which I play my iTunes library.

The Sony speaker has a constant hissing/shushing noise, with or without music being played. Just switch it on and it makes a noise.

Any ideas please as to what is causing this and how to stop it. Thank You.

Edited to say the Speaker is also Bluetooth enabled.

Sounds like possibly your Airport might be interfering with the BT signal. Have you tried changing the channel on the Airport as 2.4 GHz does interfere with BT signals and radios as well.

It could also be a ground issue. Is the speaker receiving a good ground as it mate be receiving a low ground loop from the wiring in your house and amplifying it (try a grounding strip, try the same outlet the Airport is plugged into to try and alleviate two points of ground that create the ground loop issue possibly).

Thanks squeakr, I don't think it is anything to do with Airport Express because I had this noise before I bought the AE.

However it could be, as you say, a ground problem, so I will look into this and let you know the outcome.
