Looking to add a subwoofer/speaker that works with homekit and multiroom systems. I currently have 3 mini homepods throughout my apartment and just looking for that little extra.

Any suggestions? Would love to see what people have in there homes.

I don’t have one yet but I believe the Sonos Sub and the newly launched Sonos Sub Mini both have AirPlay2 support which will thusly get them integrated into HomeKit. These are the ones I plan on looking into once I begin my home theater renovation, unless something new comes up till then.

Gotchya Gotchya. There’s always this Belkin device (see below). If you have a receiver or amp that the sub and speakers will connect to, it will essentially turn the system into AirPlay2 compatible which will get them in HomeKit. I’ve heard mixed results about it. I have one that I haven’t tried yet so can’t comment on the reliability and functionality. An AppleTV or an old AirPort Express will do the same. I have a bunch of dumb outdoor speakers by my pool with a dumb amp that’s connected to an AppleTV and a HomeKit smart plug. I have them set up to scenes and automations. Pretty cool actually… and I think I’ve wandered away from the main point of this thread lol. Anyway, my point is, you can essentially use whatever you want as long as you connect them to an AirPlay2 compatible controller. Hope this helps.

Roger. Whatever you end up with, just make sure it’s AirPlay2 and not AirPlay1. AirPlay1 doesn’t integrate into HomeKit.

Here’s a link to the official Apple website HomeKit accessories page. I’m pretty sure it’s not a fully complete list but if you scroll down to speakers, you can get an idea of what’s on the market. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

This is an interesting idea but will it actually work properly? The SONOS Sub is meant to be part of a SONOS home theatre/music system. Just selecting it as an AirPlay speaker from your iPhone would send the entire music program to to sub, not just the low frequencies. Have you verified that this works or tried it?

Ok belay my last. It can be paired with an AirPlay2 speaker. Good call.

There might be varying delay issues between different manufacturers. AirPlay 2 is supposed to handle that, but...

AirFoil might be a way to bridge behavior between different brands.

Went from not wanting to spend 500 to having my 10 year old surround sound take a dive.

ended up with sonos beam and 2 era 100s and the mini sub.

combined with the mini HomePods I had the sounds is crisp and solid everywhere.

so much for trying to do this on an affordable spectrum.
