Speakers that use optical out on Mac Pro?

Are there any that connect to the optical out port - or am I confused?

Logitech's high end speakers such as the z5500s have optical input.

the apple box speaker thing can use it I believe or with some special cable

the apple hifi has a 3.5 aka 1/8 female.
i dont know how a toslink is supposed to fit into it without a converter.
but then wouldn't you lose the digital signal?
