this might be a really stupid question,
but i just got my black satin case for my 17" uMBP and i had a small question.

the bottom piece,
is it supposed to be flush with the laptop the whole way through?
on the front corners it's flush, then as it goes towards the middle (where you open it) it starts to sink downwards.
i can push it up to be flush, but it just sits there down.
i'll try to get a photo up of what i am talking about.
but as it goes towards the middle, it gets lower.

is the bottom part supposed to touch the top piece?
it just seems kind of weird looking to me.

alright, got some pictures up.
here's what I'm talking about.

see what I mean? it starts at the top on the corners but goes down towards the middle, like it's loose in the front right there. I can move it up and down.
is it supposed to be this way? or is it supposed to look like this?

I always thought that the bottom and top were supposed to touch, where it would be completely black and the only thing showing is the hole to stick your finger into to lift the screen up.

I thought that the bottom was supposed to lay flush with the edge, but it's not.

this is what it looks like when open.

it just hangs.

or is it supposed to be like this?

all the reviews that I've seen haven't shown it like this,
always been completely covered.
I mean, I've looked on google images and stuff after this also and other cases look like this

completely shut.
so, is mine a defect? or is it supposed to be like this?
maybe it's because I have the 17"?

not that it's a big deal or anything, but when I pay for a product i'd want it to be how it's supposed to be. you know? just making sure.

I just got the same case for my 17" umbp...

save issue. not as bad as it looks in your pics but definitely same problem.

i just wrote to them, waiting for a response.
how does the send back work?
i don't have to pay to ship it back, right?

will let you guys know what they say as soon as they get back to me.
kind of surprised they haven't responded yet, but should have something by tomorrow most likely.

hmm, maybe. but i never noticed any kind of bowing with it before i got this case.
would you realize it for the bottom piece? it wouldn't lay right on the desk if it bowed i would think.

mm

Mine is odd, it's like that until I put pressure on the bottom middle front of the piece and then it lines up flush..

:/
Double sided tape, HERE I COME!

It seems that we're all having the same issue... I can push on it so that it lines up but that shouldn't be necessary.

What happens if you put some pressure on the bottom front middle of the case, does the speck then push itself flush on yours?

yeah, i did that in the photos in my original post up there ^^^

i can push it up in the middle and it will fit perfectly and touch the top lid,
but if i let it go it just sinks back down.

the only thing i can imagine is that the 17" is so wide and since it has no support it just sinks, which doesn't happen on the 15" and 13" since they're not as wide?

but still, this shouldn't be like this.
i'm 98% sure that this doesn't happen on the clear plastic, so why would it on the satin?
the inside is pretty much the same plastic, isn't it?

I think the clear plastic is like a stiff hard shell.
Our satin cases are a bit softer and more, "bendy" <-- is that the word I'm looking for? o.o.

As such it's different.
Is this causing a problem for you, or are we being aesthetically nit-picky?

PS: I think most are this way..

nope, i ordered mine from speck directly.
it doesn't really cause a PROBLEM for me, i mean. it doesn't get in the way or anything,
but it bothers me to know it's like that, i mean. i'd prefer it to be a perfect fit. you know?

the way it looks right now almost makes it look like the shell is a little too big and the laptop is just sitting inside of it.
i know that's not the case, but gee.

kind of sucks.
i wonder if they will even e-mail me back, or if they will pass my complaint off as a joke.

hahahaa

it doesn't bother me that much to use tape to hold it up,
but i'm still curious as to what speck will say about it.

still think it's kind of ****** that this is like this,
even if that's how the case is supposed to be.
that would make it even worse.

I ordered mine directly from Speck as well

same issues that you guys are having... if you push up it fits fine.
If it is supposed to be that way then why still charge $49 plus $9 shipping.

yeah, i have no idea.
maybe they didn't think it was a big deal, or they just don't have a solution for it.
what are they supposed to do?
the only thing i can think of (if this is actually how the case is for the 17"s)
is either make it a little bit tighter, just enough to hold itself there.
or add extra support hinge(s).

the reason they didn't add hinges is because your wrist would hit them then, i am guessing. but still, i don't know what i would prefer.
i'm just a little disappointed that this is like this.
i mean, i know it's pretty much the smallest thing in the world to complain about,
but it's actually pretty big as far as flaws go. i mean, for a company like Speck who is supposed to be the quality company to buy from, i wouldn't expect this.

i do feel that they should offer me money back, or a discount or whatever. if i am going to keep this case. otherwise i might just return it.
this is kind of just a let down. just because i have a bigger size laptop doesn't mean i should lose out on quality. this just makes it feel like my laptop is sitting inside of something, not as if there is a case around my laptop making the case and the laptop one item. know what i mean?

i was expecting better, but i shouldn't speak too much. i'm still waiting for their e-mail.
but the way things are looking here, this is just how the case was made.
