Speck hard case and uMBP 17 display hinge

I bought a uMBP17 and the Speck hard shell for it. I was surprised at how much heavier the machine becomes with the armor on. So I've noticed that the hinge does seem to stress a bit with the extra weight of the shell.

Have you guys noticed that ? Is this something that I should be concerned about ?

i don't think it's a problem at all,
what are you concerned about?
do you think the hinge is going to break because of the extra weight?
it's fine, or at least it should be. i can't imagine a case breaking the hinge for it.
i know the hinges were different before, but wouldn't the cases break hinges for the later generation macbooks and macbook pros if they were going to break something?

Thanks for the info. It did add about 1 lb. extra in weight when I put the case...

oh, i know. i have the speck case too. satin.
it definitely adds some bulk, but i personally like it.
i just think that if there was a hinge issue with it (which i doubt there would be anyway) that it would have been mentioned somewhere already.

i think it's safe.

Hi,

You guys are lucky your Speck case even fits - I have a 17" UMBP & the bottom case clip on the LHS just hangs loose and the bottom shell kinda of flops around a fair bit - wrote to Speck over a month ago and heard nothing - I wish I had bough Incase - this Speck Satin is so cheaply made and badly finished!

hey man, i had the same problem. kind of.
i don't know about the left hand side clip thing,
but mine does fit pretty loose.
i made a thread about it already, and i just wrote to them two days ago.
the front of it just sags down in the middle, when it's supposed to fit uniform, or flush.

incase hasn't released a case yet, so.
can't regret not buying an incase.
not yet, anyway. the only thing you can regret is not WAITING for incase to release one.
or maybe even buying the plastic on i guess.
clear plastic.
i don't mind the case too much, but the sag thing kind of bugs me.
