Sorry, I meant the 350MHz G3 iMac. I've edited my previous post :)

I'm just about to phone up some local stores and enquire to see who does the best student deals :) (Apple are winning so far, by 31 UK pence :D )

I am in the same position, try calling up the london store and getting a price with education discount. I think they quoted me 1147 with applecare. Plus you get a 100 pound rebate on any ipod (except for the shuffle), so use it to buy a mini for 130, so it only really costs 30, and sell it on ebay.

Powerbook updates this Tuesday

Evidence: I just bought mine :D

Also, the 8% educational discount was no problem - I just had to take my conditional offer letter from the uni to the store and there was no questions asked. Computer Warehouse (see earlier post) only offered a £70 discount, AND I needed a place, not a conditonal offer.

I also just bought mine, 3 weeks ago. When I bought my Rev A. 12" PB, Rev B came out 3 weeks later. Therefore, I too predict new Powerbooks on Tuesday. My guess is that the base model will bump to 1.67GHz, top to 1.8GHz, some minor other perks, maybe a price drop.

If you look at the UK store, the two top-end PB's have a delivery time of 3 days, unlike the other models which are all next-day. Similar is seen in the US Store.

Is this a clue updates are imminent?

Well, the last update for the Powerbook was late Jan this year, and the first intel mac is probably not arriving till early next year

Early next year? My understanding was Jobs said it would be low end Macs in mid-2006 that would first see the Intel chips. Powerbooks would come much later.

I think that one school of thought floating around is that the low end macs have been recently updated and released (mac mini)...it is the PB line which has been a bit exasperating....so it would make more marketing sense to first roll out mactel PBs rather than the low end ones....atleast, thats what the speculation is....as far as Steve Jobs is concerned, we would never know what his next masterstroke would be........
