I'm taking a Speech course in school and I have yet to determine the objective of it.

I better get cracking, because 20 pieces of evidence are due in seven hours and I only have thirteen right now.:(

It's probably to teach you how to speak; A lot of people are not very eloquent in their spoken language, and it reflects on how they write.

It's mostly dealing with research so far... though there's apparently a massive debate in February at the end of the trimester.

The other required course I'm not looking forward to is Health and Fitness. I hear it's a gym class with thin slices of inaccurate health information. Computer Apps was also a joke.

The only class I've thoroughly enjoyed so far is Honors English.

Speech class is good for you even if you hate it. I took it first semester last year and I hated it, but since then I've been better (and get less nervous) when doing a presentation.

OH. So it's not a speech course as in; 'we're here to teach you eloquence'.

It's more like a debate/presentation class? I see. In that case; it's preparing you for the workplace.

Even if you spend your whole life flipping burgers, you need to know how to communicate and to communicate effectively. Doubly so if you go into an office type atmosphere. Get used to it now, it will never go away!!

Well, so far, most of the time we're either talking about what we did last night while the teacher does administrative stuff and leaves the room, or we're in front of a computer on Lexis Nexis, which is a skill, but so far not really relevant to the title of the course....

I guess I'll have to wait and see...

I got thrown into speech my first semester at school with all Seniors because everything filled up. The school makes your schedule first semester freshman year, so I didn't have a choice.

I was scared to death...

It ended up being the best class...

Turns out that all the seniors worked at the campus pub (do they have those anymore?) Free Beer and entry for the year... Then they graduated! :(

I hated the idea of it at first. I found it helped me greatly in the future, especially on interviewing and ultimately presentations. They give you great tips on how to deal with an audience, how to look at someone, how to appear interesting to an audience.

I learned more than I would have expected. Just talk about things you know an you'll be fine. Knowing your subject matter is most of the battle. You get over that uncomfortable feeling pretty quickly.

Have fun! Everyone else in the class has the same attitude so your not alone.
