Where are some good resources for learning how to use and program the voice control software that comes with OS/X?

I have tried web searching but am pulling way to many useless sites.

what would you like to know, i've played with the voice commands quite a bit, i had it fetching my email in the morning, and the news sites i usually look at. i could send emails to people, and launch programs.

I eventually got bored with it because it is kinda limited. The only thing i really want to set up again is fetching the morning news and e-mail(i reinstalled jag and didn't back up some things i wasn't using). Everything else i had to be in front of the computer for anyway so i might as well just click. THe mike in my power book sucked most of the time and the only command that worked consistently was "get my email".

you really need and external mike if you want to do it right.

I just would like to learn how to program new commands and such.

I realize it is limited, but I find that I do not have many problems with it as long as no other noises are around.

It is just one of those neat little things that make owning a quality computer fun.

apple script, everything can be programed with apple script.

Its really quite easy.

1)write an apple script.
2)when saving, name the script whatever you want to say to call it.
3)save it in your speakable items folder. (start up speech and say "open speakable items". That should open the folder they need to be saved in.
4)restart speech.
5)try out the command by calling the scripts name. Should work like a charm.

Like i said, my favorite one was "morning news". It opened msnbc.com, cnn.com, macrumors.com, and a couple more sites who's headlines i browse each morning in seperate windows, in addition i had it open mail and check new messages.

i had a few other scripts to email specific people and i'd say "email <name here>" and it would email the correct person.

i wish i still had my old scripts i would have zipped them and shared them over for you to use.

it is a cool thing dont get me wrong, but i almost always have music and/or tv on while working so it got to be annoying, i'd be yelling at the tibook from across the room, to "fetch news" or something and it would just ignore me, or misinterprate and "get new mail" or something. It would have worked better with an external Mic but still the tv/music would interfere. On occasion the tv would launch programs if someone said something similar to what my script was called, it was both amusing and annoying at the same time....:D
