Will the speed increase on the 32gb and 64gb make a significant difference?
I'm asking because I am waiting for my 2g 8gb touch in the mail (student promo) and was wondering if I should get the new 32gb instead...

I definitely can't hurt. Especially when playing graphic intense games like that 3D roller coaster games, and things like that. I would get the 32GB just for the extra space alone.

Have you used an iphone 3GS? The speed difference is quite noticeable.

is it just noticeable in 3d games? Also, it says 50% faster, but the 3gs says it's 2X faster than the 3g. Maybe it's not as big of a speed increase as the 3gs was...?

People right now are mad about not having a camera but when the fancier games start to come out I'm sure people are going to appreciate the faster processor.

Apps open faster amongst other things.

3GS is so fast. Never seen apps open that fast on my touch.

The iPod touch 2G had a 533mhz processor (downclocked from 600mhz but w/e) and was 'bumped' to 600mhz in the iPod touch 3G- not 2x but around 50%.

The iPhone 3G had a 412mhz processor and was 'bumped' to 600mhz in the iPhone 3GS so it's closer to 2x.

Errr... The Iphone 3GS has a completely different processor then the 3G did, it's the ARM Cortex A8 vs ARM 11 Core on the older 3G. It's what allows Apple to claim 2x the performance of 3G processor, without doubling the clockspeed.

Hopefully the 3G Touch also has the ARM Cortex A8 at 600MHZ like the 3GS, we will see...

Going from a ARM 11 at 533 MHz to an ARM Cortex A8 at 600MHz isn't as much as a boost. Apple's math is right if we accept their claims that the 3GS is 2x as fast as the 3G.

Wrong. Higher clock speed isn't linear to performance. 533 -> 600 isn't anywhere near 50%, so not only is your math wrong, your concept and understanding of processors is wrong. Oh, and you have horrible grammar. The iPhone 3G HAS a 412MHz processor. Not had. It's not past tense.

So, in terms of speed, how the new iPod Touch compared with the iPhone 3GS?
