Last night I did the "Erase Free Space" and selected Most Secure. I figured this would help speed up my Mac a little. Afterwards I shut down the Mac and about 30 minutes later turned it back on. I opened up FCP X to work on a 45 second clip and it's slow as molasses. Any ideas?

As you can see from the screenshot, FCP X uses 570.5% of your CPU (800% available), probably doing a transcode or analysing the footage.

What made you think that? Important lesson here - if you're not sure what you're doing then stop fiddling with a sensitive piece of equipment.

When the transcode is finished and at 100% does the system then work faster? It seems like any clip I work on it's just extremely sluggish and skips around while I play my work.

Did you work on the same FCX project prior to doing the erase; as in, with the same exact footage on the timeline?

I started the project after the erase.
