I noticed my Macbook pro was taking a long time to boot from Shutdown. When I press the power button it was displaying a blank screen with backlit on and after 20 or so seconds the Apple boot logo appears.
Today I noticed holding Option made it boot super fast and show the startup disk option.

Here's how I fixed mine:
Open Startup Disk in System Preferences, make sure that the start up hard drive is selected. On my machine, the one and only startup disk was not selected.
Now it starts up in less than 5 seconds. Press On. Zap!

For those, where the hard disk was not selected, do you have FileVault turned on?
