The best way to determine Download speed via pure HTML is the new "fast.com" site that was just launched by Netflix to reveal BS results that are often given by speed test sites that are influenced by ISPs.

The downside of that site is it only shows download speeds and not upload.

Otherwise, the speeds are the same result as beta.speedtest.net (after running 10 tests in a row on both sites).

interesting (or frustrating), seeing the different reports from these sites: fast.com shows a DL speed of 50, speedof.me shows 62, and the others (speedtest.net and dslreports) both show about 57.

may try this again later (or maybe, i'll just get back to my life)... :D

EDIT: so, disabled 3rd party extensions in safari, paused crashplan, etc.
this time, everyone reports 57 (give or take .5)... except speedof.me, which still shows 62...
making it my favorite  (altho more inclined to believe the other 3)
